Nonprofit offers sport of pickleball for free to S. Maui students; volunteers sought
Maui Tennis and Pickleball Association is serving up the sport of pickleball to 20 elementary school students in South Maui. A five-week pilot program at Kīhei Elementary School pairs volunteer instructors with 3rd through 5th graders. Eventually, the association hopes to expand the free program to students throughout Maui and is searching for volunteer instructors.

Jazz Maui founder seeks more music education for Valley Isle youths
Jazz Maui founder Bryant Neal has been involved in helping to organize music workshops for Maui youths for more than two decades. Yuki Lei Sugimura named Maui County Council vice chairperson with 7-2 vote

Lawmaker concerned about falling boulders amid rainy weather
“We’ve been in this position before with boulders falling from a hillside in Kalihi Valley several times during a 10-year period,” said State Representative John Mizuno (D-29 Kalihi Valley, Kamehameha Heights, portion of Lower Kalihi) in a news release. “Unfortunately, much of the rockslides or boulders coming down are both related to the rainy weather and the location, usually along a hillside which naturally has a gravitational pull once the surrounding soil turns to mud.”
