The state Department of Health, Clean Water Branch reports that heavy rain has resulted in stormwater runoff entering into coastal waters.

JCSM presents “Children’s Day – Kodomo No Hi” on Saturday

The Japanese Cultural Society of Maui presents “Children’s Day – Kodomo No Hi” on Saturday, May 7 at the Queen Kaʻahumanu Center from 6 to 9 p.m.  Kodomo No Hi is a Japanese tradition that focuses on children; and the evening’s activities present a variety of multi-cultural entertainment and exploratory experiences.

Road closure: Hāna area of Piʻilani Highway due to flooding, landslide

Maui police have closed the Piʻilani Highway in the Hāna area of East Maui due to flooding and landslides.  The Piʻilani Highway (Hwy 31) is closed at Mile 19 and Mile 36.  Motorists should use alternate routes.  The closure went into effect at 4:30 a.m. on Monday, May 2, 2022.

UH campuses host graduation ceremonies; UH Maui College slated for May 14

There is no spectator limit at this year’s commencement ceremonies for the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College. The in-person event takes place on May 14, from 5-6:30 p.m.

Winter Weather Advisory for Big Island Summits above 12,500 feet

The advisory calls for periods of freezing rain, drizzle and snow at elevations above 12,500 feet. Total snow accumulations of 2-4 inches are possible along with light ice accumulations.

53rd Annual Barrio Fiesta at Binhi at Ani Filipino Community Center, May 27-28

Binhi at Ani Filipino Community Center in Kahului will be the site of the 53rd Annual Barrio Fiesta. The event takes place over two days, on Friday, May 27 from 5 to 10 p.m., and Saturday, May 28 from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Beginning Sunday, May 1, 2022,  all real estate transactions conducted in Hawai‘i must include disclosures about the risk of sea level rise (SLR) to the property. The mandate, enacted in 2021, requires disclosure about sea level rise, up to and including 3.2 feet.

More than 42% of private sector payroll employees (198,224) were working remotely as of Aug. 31, 2021, including 20,636 individuals working from out-of-state.
