More than 20 leaders from Hawaiʻi’s agriculture and business sectors recently completed the second annual Hawaiʻi-USDA Policy Summit in Washington, D.C., highlighting local priorities and challenges directly to federal officials.

The Color Festival Hawaiʻi will return to the Maui Arts & Cultural Center on April 26, 2025, featuring live music, food and the signature color-throwing experience.

About 1,200 Maui residents and visitors — some from as far away as Canada and Brazil — ran and walked in last weekend’s 14th annual Maui 5K at Maui Ocean Center, raising a record $72,000 for Maui Nui schools.

This holiday season, Maui United Way, in partnership with Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines and the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement, is spreading the spirit of aloha by reuniting four wildfire survivor families with their island home. These families, displaced to the continent following the devastating 2023 wildfires, now have the chance to return to Maui to celebrate the holidays and visit with their loved ones, experience the warmth of home once again. 

Hawaiian Airlines celebrated the return of its seasonal Auckland-Honolulu route on Saturday, welcoming over 200 travelers on a nonstop flight between Hawai‘i and New Zealand. The seasonal service will continue to operate three flights per week on its 278-seat Airbus A330 through April 30, 2025.

Lahaina Cannery will hold its annual Halloween Spooktacular event on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 3 to 6 p.m. inside the Cannery. 

The Shops at Wailea is welcoming families for an afternoon of spooky fun at its “Keiki Halloween” event on Sunday, Oct. 27, from 3 to 7 p.m.

Scouting America, Aloha Council, one of the largest youth-serving organizations in Hawaiʻi and the Pacific, announced the launch of its new Scouting Leadership Series. The inaugural event will take place on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaiʻi. It will feature two industry-leading executives: Joseph Sprague, CEO of Hawaiian Airlines, and Brad Tilden, former CEO of Alaska Airlines and current National Board Chair of Scouting America.

The MeleCraft Music Mentorship by Haku Collective is returning to Maui after its debut earlier this year.

The officially merged Hawaiian and Alaska Airlines have expanded Hawaiian’s former 64-aircraft fleet into a combined fleet of 350 passenger airplanes, now offering Hawaiʻi residents non-stop or one-stop flights to 128 cities and destinations like Chicago, Denver, Washington, D.C., Toronto, New Orleans, Costa Rica and Miami. But the airline merger will not bring new air service to Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi, Kapalua or Hāna.

Prizes are on the line for a statewide kūpuna spelling bee coming to Oʻahu this October.

Imua Family Services has announced its 13th annual Paddle Imua, scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 14, 2024. This year’s paddle race event also kicks off the Koa Kai Triple Crown, a three-part FOIL series showcasing three classic downwind courses linking the islands of Maui, Molokaʻi and Oʻahu.

Chamber of Commerce Hawaiʻi, in partnership with US Sen. Mazie K. Hirono hosts the 8th Annual Hawaiʻi on the Hill from June 15 to 18. This four-day initiative in Washington D.C allows Hawaiʻi businesses and members of the community to travel to the nation’s capital to meet with federal officials, tour D.C. and showcase our industries and products with members of congress over a series of nine events.

Nine months after the Lahaina wildfire disaster an estimated 75% remained in temporary housing, according to a report published by the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement. Some of the permanent housing is away from Maui, but the report did not have precise information about those who’ve moved away.

Hawai‘i’s Public Libraries invite readers of all ages to join a celebration of the rich and varied stories that shape our communities with this year’s Summer Reading Challenge “E Heluhelu Kākou – Moʻolelo.”

A new travel gift program was announced on Wednesday, providing more than 3,000 roundtrip Alaska Airlines flights, as well as Disneyland tickets and accommodations to Maui families affected by the Aug. 8 wildfires.
