Maui firefighters responded to two brush fires overnight—one in Haʻikū, and the other along the Kūihelani Highway in Central Maui.

The Maui Department of Fire & Public Safety announced the promotion of Michael Werner to the rank of Assistant Chief.  A badge pinning ceremony was held on Wednesday at the Kahului Fire Station.  Werner is a veteran firefighter, most recently serving as Battalion Chief.  Prior to that was promoted to Captain in 2011.  

The Maui Fire Department announced the promotion of Kaulana Kino to Battalion Chief.  Kino, a 16-year veteran, joined the department in 2002.

The Maui Department of Fire and Public Safety announced the promotion of Guy Danley to the rank of Battalion Chief.

The County of Maui Department of Fire and Public Safety announced the promotion of eight members today, two of them to the rank of Battalion Chief.

A brush fire that was first reported at 1:50 p.m. today (Friday, August 20, 2010) burned an estimated 4 acres of vacant land.  The fire was located approximately 1/2 mile from the Mokulele Highway in Kahului.   Shortly before 6 p.m., Acting Battalion Chief Sheldon Holokai said the fire is 100% contained and crews were conducting mop-up operations.  Fire […]
