The first phase of the “Maui Nui Hall of Fame” was unveiled Sunday evening at Kahului Airport, featuring 40 inaugural inductees from Maui County who have made significant contributions in music, film, and sports in Hawai‘i and beyond. The event drew more than 100 Hawaiʻi icons, government leaders, residents and well-wishers who celebrated the accomplishments, talents and impressive careers of honorees who have left a lasting impact in their respective fields.

The Kani Kūola Music Festival commences Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Ka‘a‘i‘ike Building on the UHMC campus.

Brian Kohne, an award-winning music producer and filmmaker who grew up on Maui, has been named as the new County of Maui Film Commissioner, according to an announcement by the county’s Office of Economic Development today. His official start date is April 1, 2024.

Talented musician, actor and producer Eric Gilliom has performed seven comedic “White Hawaiian” theatrical shows on Maui — all of them sold out — but then COVID-19 hit and the show paused in February 2022. Now, after consulting with show co-writer Brian Kohne, producer of comedic film “Get A Job,” Gilliom is back, beginning a run of his family autobiographical show, this time at the ProArts Playhouse in Kīhei.

Award-winning producer and director Brian Kohne is the new director for the Creative Media program at the University of Hawai‘i Maui College.

Brian Kohne, a 2015 Writers Immersive fellow, will also be taking his award-winning motion picture, “Maui” (previously known as “Kuleana”), to the market with a foreign sales distributor, American Cinema International.

Maui Now’s Wendy Osher attended Saturday’s opening event at the Maui Mall where the film’s producers and actors held a red carpet meet-and-greet event.

To commemorate KULEANA’s milestone achievement, Mayor Arakawa and County Film Commissioner Bennett will join the cast and crew at the Maui Mall on March 31.

The award-winning film KULEANA hits theaters statewide with its theatrical release on March 30th at Regal and Consolidated Theaters throughout Hawaiʻi.

The film will be opening at eight theaters across the state and a ninth on Guam with details expected to be released next week.
