Maui Fire Department responds to two brush fires overnight
Maui firefighters responded to two brush fires overnight—one in Haʻikū, and the other along the Kūihelani Highway in Central Maui.
Kūihelani brush fire updates: 5 acres burned; 100% contained as of 7 p.m.
A fire along the Kūihelani Highway in Central Maui on Friday afternoon burned five acres of brush before it was brought under control. Fire officials declared the blaze 100% contained at 6:55 p.m. No damages were reported.
Crater Road reopens to through traffic; fire 100% contained
Crater Road has reopened to through traffic as of 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3, 2024. The road had been closed since July 27 as a safety precaution as crews continued work to contain the 574-acre Crater Road Fire which began on July 10.

Lance DeSilva, Forest Management Supervisor, DLNR Division of Forestry and Wildlife said he hopes to get things settled down by Wednesday, “But we’ll stay out here as long as we have to,” he said.
Crater Road Fire Sunday update: 80% contained, 574 acres burned
The Crater Road Fire has burned 574 acres since it was first reported on Wednesday evening. By 7 p.m. on Sunday, fire officials declared the fire 80% contained. Personnel with the Maui Fire Department will utilize an engine and a tanker overnight to monitor conditions, with work resuming on Monday.
Haleakalā Crater Road fire update 9 p.m. July 12: Residents urged to prepare for potential evacuations; 550 acres burned
Maui County officials issued an update shortly before 9 p.m., notifying the public there are NO evacuations called at this time. However, Maui Police Department officers are going through Kula neighborhoods notifying residents to PREPARE to evacuate if necessary and to sign up for MEMA Alerts.
Haleakalā brush fire burns 2-3 acres off Crater Road
A brush fire that started on Saturday evening off of Crater Road, burned 2-3 acres. Although the fire is fully contained, crews continued mop-up operations today.
Update: Waiehu brushfire 100% contained
A brush fire in Waiehu burned 1.75 acres on Friday afternoon. The fire was reported at around 12:57 p.m. on May 24, 2024 in an area near the Kahekili Highway and Waiehu Beach Road intersection. Crews arrived on scene to find at least two separate areas where abandoned vehicle fires had spread to the surrounding brush.

Fire along Maui Veterans Highway burns an estimated four acres
An estimated four acres of brush burned in an afternoon fire along the Maui Veterans Highway west of the Maui Raceway Park between Kahului and Kīhei on Tuesday.
Brush fire burns 35 acres; Maui Veterans Highway now OPEN
As of 1:19 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 14, this fire that was first reported on Monday along the Maui Veterans Highway is now considered 100% contained.

Maui Fire Department crews responded to 20 emergency calls for fires over the Fourth of July holiday. The majority of these fires were small brush fires and rubbish bin fires which could be quickly extinguished, according to department reports; however, there were two brush fires that required response from multiple units.

The Piʻilani Highway is now OPEN. It was closed earlier this afternoon due to a brush fire in Kīhei between the wastewater treatment plant and Monsanto.

Maui fire crews worked overnight to battle a stubborn fire in Olowalu where 100 acres had burned by nightfall on Tuesday. The fire was 50% contained at last report.
