With the rebuilding of homes underway and the commercial cleanup nearly finished, businesses say the timing is crucial to rebuild and provide jobs for returning residents.

A grand opening celebration will be held on Halloween, Oct. 31, for the launch of Pineapple Robot, a new bar at the Honokōwai Marketplace.

Hana Hou Hospitality restaurants will be closed on Aug. 8, 2024, the one-year anniversary of the Lahaina wildfire disaster that killed 102, destroyed thousands of structures and left thousands more homeless.

Hana Hou Hospitality announced its Māla Ocean Tavern is set to reopen in February of 2024. The restaurant is one of five West Maui establishments run by the group, two of which were destroyed by the Aug. 8, 2023 wildfire in Lahaina.

New executive chef Naiwi Teruya, born and raised in Lahaina, has developed what he calls “Southern Aloha,” with new menu concepts emphasizing the soul of comfort, enjoyment and happiness.

HuiZero launches, Maui’s first zero waste to-go container program, on Friday, Oct. 8, 2021 at participating restaurants across Maui. 

Restaurant, Down the Hatch invites the public to help clean-up around Honolua Bay in celebration of Earth Day this Saturday. The event runs from 8 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 24 between mile marker 32 to 35.

Down The Hatch Maui welcomes Chef de Cuisine Jorge “Nacho” Perez to help manage alongside Executive Chef Alvin Savella at the Lahaina eatery.

Several restaurants across Maui have announced that they will be cooking up holiday meals available for purchase for those looking to forgo cooking at home for the Thanksgiving holiday.  

Acclaimed Chef Alvin Savella was named Executive Chef of the local West Maui restaurant group that includes Māla Ocean Tavern, Down The Hatch, and Breakwall Shave Ice Co. Chef Savella known as the “Kitchen Assassin,” was born and raised in Lahaina, Maui.

Coral Reef Alliance is partnering with Down the Hatch for an at-home native planting opportunity for volunteers from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5. Volunteers will receive a planting kit needed to grow approximately 50 native plants.

Down the Hatch will host its 4th Anniversary Jungle Party on Aug. 17 from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will feature live music, a costume contest, and a late night DJ. More information on the day-long-event is available here.

Down The Hatch in Lāhainā is hosting a Valentine’s Day dance party, with music starting at 10 p.m. and the kitchen serving food until midnight.

Down The Hatch in Lāhainā has organized a free rock-paper-scissors tournament, and raffle on Sept. 15, with all proceeds for those affected by August 24 fires.

Chef Brian Reilly will introduce house-made tortillas and later kitchen times, and will continue to make locally-caught fish a priority at Down the Hatch.

DTH Circus on Saturday, August 18 features live music and performances all day, along with balloons, face painting and tableside magic.  

From June 4 to 11, some local bars and restaurants will mix classic Negroni cocktails and Negroni variations for a great cause, as part of a worldwide event.
