Habitat for Humanity Maui has received a $16,500 grant from Lowe’s to help with the renovation of one home on Molokaʻi in critical need of safety-related repairs.

After months of preparation, Habitat for Humanity Maui is embarking on the next step to help Maui wildfire survivors rebuild their homes and lives. The devastating wildfire that swept through Lahaina and Kula on Aug. 8, 2023, destroyed over 2,200 homes, leaving thousands of families displaced and in need of urgent support. The nonprofit organization has partnered with multiple community agencies to help survivors return to their homes, and is now calling on individuals, businesses, and organizations to join in this critical mission, providing the resources needed to restore stability for those affected.

Habitat for Humanity Maui announced it is the recipient of a $3 million donation from Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez. This contribution, one of the largest in the organization’s history, will directly support Habitat Maui’s ongoing efforts to address Maui’s urgent need for affordable housing, especially in light of the recent wildfires and the worsening housing crisis on the island, organization leaders said.

Habitat for Humanity Maui announced a special Disaster Recovery Fundraiser to be held at the historic Old Lahaina Lūʻau on Aug. 17, 2024. This event aims to raise essential funds to support the rebuilding of Lahaina, which was devastated by the catastrophic wildfires of 2023. All proceeds from the fundraiser will go directly towards recovery and reconstruction efforts. 

Since becoming an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, Habitat for Humanity Maui has built and renovated over 200 homes in Maui County. They are currently building in Keokea-Waiohuli in partnership with the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands and are moving forward with an upcoming project in Hāna which will feature 25 homes.

Bachman will be replacing Sherri K. Dodson who is stepping down at the end of 2022, to lead the organization’s Homeownership Education and Counseling program.
