Update: A head-on crash early Wednesday morning claimed the life of three people. Maui police have since identified all individuals involved. Police say speed is believed to be a factor in the fiery crash.

A 62-year-old Lahaina man suffered fatal injuries in a motor vehicle crash on the Lahaina Bypass on Tuesday morning. Police say the man was operating an electric bike and was attempting to travel east across the Lahaina Bypass at the Honoapiʻilani Highway intersection when a black 1999 Toyota Tacoma traveling southbound collided into him.

A Lahaina man was arrested Tuesday morning, following a hit-and-run crash in which he allegedly struck a moped with his sedan and fled the scene. Police say that as a result of the collision, the moped operator, a 32-year-old Wailuku woman became caught in the undercarriage of the sedan and was dragged for a significant distance before becoming dislodged.

A 42-year-old woman died after being struck by a vehicle while she was crossing the Honoapiʻilani Highway in Olowalu Monday night. The incident was reported at around 7:40 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2023, on the Honoapiʻilani Highway (30) in the area of Mile 13.9. 

(10:13 a.m., Saturday, April 1, 2023) The Honopiʻilani Highway is now OPEN at Māʻalaea Road. The road was closed earlier due to a motor vehicle accident.

UPDATES: (5:09 p.m., March 11, 2023). The Honoapiʻilani Highway is now open in both directions. It will take some time before traffic resumes its normal flow. The highway was closed for several hours since around 1:30 p.m. following a motor vehicle accident near Mile 8.5.

Emergency crews are on the scene of a traffic accident in the “Pali” area of the Honoapiʻilani Highway. The incident was reported at around 9:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2022.

The Honoapiʻilani Highway at the Lahaina Bypass is now OPEN in both directions as of 11:29 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2022. The highway was closed since 9:19 a.m. due to a motor vehicle accident reported earlier this morning.

A Maui teen sustained life threatening injuries from a single vehicle crash reported overnight in West Maui.

Emergency crews are on the scene of a motor vehicle accident on the Honoapiʻilani Highway.  Witnesses say a car flipped on the “Pali” section of Honoapiʻilani Highway on Kahului side of the tunnel. Traffic remained open in both directions, but motorists experienced delays while the accident was cleared.

Traffic is starting to resume its normal flow following a single-vehicle rollover crash on the Honoapiʻilani Highway.  As of 8:30 a.m., the vehicle was being towed from the scene and crews were working to clean fluids on the road.  Traffic that was previously at a standstill headed from Lahaina into Kahului has since started moving.  Motorists are asked to exercise patience as traffic resumes its normal flow.  The accident was reported shortly after 7 a.m. on the Lahaina side of the “Pali” tunnel, on the makai shoulder.

Honoapiʻilani HIghway is now open in both directions.  It was closed earlier today following a motor vehicle collision near Mile 35 a the Honokōhau Bridge.

Honoapiʻilani (Hwy-30) at Mile Marker 18 in Lahaina is now OPEN as of 4:40 a.m.  The highway was closed earlier this morning at around midnight due to a traffic investigation.  Check back for further details, which will be posted as they become available.  

Maui police are on the scene of a traffic accident on the Honoapiʻilani Highway near the North Kīhei Road intersection in Māʻalaea.

The operator of the Honda Accord was identified, following notification of next of kin, as Aliya HUE SING, described as a (24) twenty-four-year-old female from Waikapū.

UPDATE: HONOAPIILANI HWY IS NOW OPEN as of 8:20 p.m. 8.10.19. The road was closed earlier this evening following a fatal rollover traffic accident reported in Ukumehame at around 5:30 p.m.

The Honoapiʻilani Hwy is now OPEN in both directions as of 2:11 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2018. It was closed earlier this afternoon following a motor vehicle accident in the Māʻalaea/Waikapū area. Expect delays as traffic resumes its normal flow.

A New York man has since died after suffering injuries in a motor vehicle accident reported on Saturday night in Nāpili.

Motorists traveling to or from West Maui at this hour are advised of a traffic accident on the Honoapiʻilani Highway near the Olowalu General Store.
