Koakāne Mattos of Makawao captured the top honor at the 23rd annual Richard Ho‘opi‘i Leo Kiʻekiʻe Falsetto Contest over the weekend with his heartfelt rendition of the Hawaiian classic “Kalamaula.”

Maui County Council members celebrated their inauguration for the 2025-2027 term with Hawaiian oli, singing and hula this morning at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Castle Theater.

Kamehameha Schools Children’s Chorus hosted a free community concert Friday night at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center. The concert, He Leo Aloha No Maui, drew nearly a thousand people to “share the gift of mele to bring healing and hope to the people of Maui,” according to the organizers. Children from the Children’s Chorus sang “O Lahaina, E Hoi Ka Nani” during the event.

The Maui Arts & Cultural Center presents a free community concert featuring the Kamehameha Schools Children’s Chorus on Friday, April 12, 2024 at 7:30 p.m. in the Castle Theater. The He Leo Aloha No Maui Concert will also feature guest performances by Kamaka Kukona and Hālau o Ka Hanu Lehua, Nāpua Silva and Hālau Nā Lei Kaumaka o Uka, and Ikaika Blackburn, Halehaku Seabury, and Keoni Souza of Nā Hoa.

This week on Maui, there are concerts by Nashville songwriters and Grammy-nominated reggae singer Pato Banton, as well as Will Evans, Brother Noland in a Slack Key Show, and the Kīhei Fridays event. Coming Soon: A concert by country singer Brett Young.

The Kamehameha Maui Hawaiian Ensemble presents Kealakupuna: Ancestral Pathways, an evening of mele and dance, on Saturday, Feb. 11 for an evening of mele and dance.
