Several storm-impacted County parks, recreation facilities remain closed
Several County of Maui parks and recreation facilities remain closed today, Tuesday, March 24, 2026, following assessments of damage in storm-impacted areas, according to the County Department of Parks and Recreation.
Restrictions lifted South Maui; repairs continue following 202,000 gallon wastewater overflow
Properties connected to the County’s wastewater (sewer) system in South Maui (Sugar Beach, Kīhei, Wailea/Makena) no longer need to restrict usage due to repairs to Kīhei Wastewater Pump Station No. 6, according to an update issued by the Maui Department of Environmental Management on Friday afternoon.

A wastewater overflow this morning at Kalama Park in Kīhei did not enter storm drains or the ocean, and has been cleaned up, with the area sanitized and cordoned off, according to the County of Maui Department of Environmental Management.

The latest round of coastal limu sampling on Maui appeared to find unusually high nitrogen levels at Kahului Harbor and Pōhaku Park, also called “S-Turns,” but low wastewater indicators, according to the Maui Nui Marine Resource Council, which coordinated the project. Researchers say the mixed results require further investigation to determine the nitrogen source.
