Hawaiʻi Foodbank has announced a $1 million donation from the Airbnb Community Fund that will help to provide food for approximately two million meals to families, kūpuna and keiki in need across the islands.

September marks Hunger Action Month—a time to raise awareness about hunger, advocate for change, and take meaningful action to combat food insecurity. This year, the significance of this month is particularly profound for us here on Maui. In the wake of the devastating wildfires, the demand for food assistance has surged by over 65%, pushing our community to the brink.

This September, Maui Food Bank joins Feeding America’s Hunger Action Month to raise awareness about hunger and inspire people to take action. Since the Maui wildfires, the demand for food has increased by over 65%, according to organization leaders. 

Following a comprehensive search, Maui Food Bank has named Lisa Paulson as chief executive officer, effective Aug. 19, 2024. The appointment comes at a critical time as the organization addresses a 65% surge in food insecurity needs due to the recent Maui wildfires.

The Maui Hotel & Lodging Association has distributed a total of $1,559,449 to 59 nonprofit beneficiaries of the Maui County Charity Walk.  

Fifty-nine Maui County nonprofits will share $1,559,449 raised during the Maui Hotel & Lodging Association’s annual Maui County Charity Walk that happened last May.

The Maui Hotel & Lodging Association awarded a total of $53,500 in scholarships to graduating students of Lahainaluna, Maui High, Baldwin High, Kamehameha Schools Maui and Maui Preparatory Academy, as well as students currently attending post high school institutions.  Thirty-five outstanding individuals were awarded through three scholarship programs: the UH Maui College Hospitality and Culinary Program, the Academy of Hospitality Program and the MHLA Member Program.

The Maui Hotel & Lodging Association gifted 500 pies and socks to seniors across Maui County, partnering with local organizations to deliver the holiday treats and spread joy.

Lisa Paulson, executive director of the Maui Hotel & Lodging Association, has been honored with top industry recognitions, including Hospitality Executive of the Year by Pacific Edge magazine.

The Maui Hotel & Lodging Association delivered 16,800 pounds of rice throughout Maui, Molokaʻi, and Lānaʻi for the Thanksgiving Holiday. This year marked the 30th Annual Turkey & Rice Holiday Gifting event.

The pin, named after the Hawaiian phrase “Mālama Maui,” signifying “Caring for Maui,” hopes to offer solace to residents while providing guidance for visitors. Its fundamental purpose is to establish a supportive environment for residents by offering a visual cue to visitors, signifying the importance of refraining from inquiring about the experiences of Maui residents, thus respecting their privacy.

“Maui nonprofits are a needed support system for our communities,” says Lisa Paulson, Executive Director of the Maui Hotel & Lodging Association. “With the hardships of the recent wildfires, it was crucial to make this hard-earned money available to them immediately.”

Naomi Cooper will assist the Maui Hotel & Lodging Association with its communication and education efforts to its membership and the Maui County community.

The Maui County Council passed Bill 159 that would end the temporary hotel moratorium, prohibit camper van usage as tourist lodging and continue the cap on transient vacation rentals.

The Board of Directors and Political Action Committee of the Maui Hotel & Lodging Association announced its endorsements for state and county candidates in the 2022 General Election.
