A visitor was airlifted to safety after suffering an ankle injury during a fall on a hike at the area known as “Olivine Pools” in West Maui, Sunday. The 43-year-old woman was unable to walk out on her own.

Two people were displaced and one person was injured following a residential fire on Friday night in Haʻikū. The incident was reported at 10:36 p.m. in the 1300 block of Kaupakalua Road.

Heavy rainfall has helped decrease fire risk, but first responders are still on alert during high hurricane winds.

The four-day training, attended by both Maui firefighters and community volunteers, covered wildfire and home ignition fundamentals, homeowner engagement and communication, HWMO’s home assessment process and software, and included classroom sessions as well as extensive hands-on field practice.

An estimated half acre of brush burned in an area between East Līpoa Street and Hale Kūʻai Street in Kīhei on Friday afternoon, Sept. 4, 2026. The fire was reported at around 1:31 p.m., in an area behind multiple businesses.

A van was destroyed by fire during an incident reported Tuesday morning along the Honoapiʻilani Highway in Olowalu. The incident was reported at 6:38 a.m. on Sept. 1, 2026 in the area known as “Cut Mountain.”

Maui fire crews responded to a half acre brush fire in the Waikō area of Central Maui, Tuesday night.  The fire was reported at 7:07 p.m., west of the Kuihelani Highway and north of East Waikō Road.

The $3 million Olowalu Fire Station project was fully funded until the Canadian company supplying the modular building for the station was hit with 50% steel tariffs by the U.S. last year.

A brush fire burned less than a half an acre of brush off the Piʻilani Highway near Piʻikea Avenue on Tuesday afternoon.  Firefighters responded shortly after 5:30 p.m. on the east side of the highway.

Seven paddlers were rescued from a double hull canoe offshore of Kīhei, Tuesday morning, when the vessel became partially swamped with water. 

A brush fire on Waikō Road near Manea Place in Wailuku burned about two acres of brush and grass on Thursday night. Upon arrival, crews found the fire burning southwest of Waikō Road. Firefighters had to move concrete barriers to access the site.
