A public aerial fireworks show for the Fourth of July will take place at 8 o’clock tonight (July 4), offshore of the Grand Wailea at 3850 Wailea Alanui Drive in Kīhei. The Grand Wailea has reported that the show will last approximately 15 minutes.

Four recruits graduate joining the ranks of the Maui Ocean Safety Bureau
Makai Farm, Harrison Cannon, James McNeil and Jacob Jacinto completed the 12-week training program. Cannon was given the award for the Best Overall Recruit. The “Surf 50” award, created in memory of fallen Ocean Safety Officer Randy Hillen, was given to Jacinto.
Maui Fire Department turns over command of the Kahikinui Brush Fire to DOFAW
Effective this morning, Thursday, June 19, 2025, overall command and responsibility for the Kahikinui Brush Fire will move from the County of Maui Department of Fire and Public Safety to the State of Hawaiʻi Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife.
Kahikinui fire 93% contained; evacuation orders lifted
Evacuation orders for Kahikinui were lifted at 7 p.m. today, June 16, due to increased fire containment, according to Maui Emergency Management Agency. The fire has burned 330 acres since it first started Sunday morning, and was 93% contained as of nightfall on Monday.
Emergency proclamations signed in response to Kahikinui brush fire
Mayor Richard Bissen and Lt. Gov. Sylvia Luke, serving as acting governor, signed emergency proclamations in response to the ongoing brush fire in Kahikinui.
Kahikinui fire revised to 330 acres; 80% contained
The Kahikinui brush fire mauka of the highway near Mile Marker 24 and 25 is now mapped at approximately 330 acres, which was calculated by Air One flying the perimeter with a flight tracker. MFD said containment as of 8 a.m. on Monday, June 16, is 80%.

Wildland fire apparatus is the first of seven being donated to Maui Fire Department
A blessing was held over the weekend to bring into service a new wildland firefighting apparatus for the Maui Fire Department. This vehicle is the first of a total of seven new firefighting apparatus being donated to the Maui Fire Department through a collective effort by the Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Fund.
