Registration open for CNHA’s 2025 Native Hawaiian Convention, Oct. 7-9 in Washington

The Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement will hold the 2025 Native Hawaiian Convention from Oct. 7-9, 2025, at the Tulalip Resort & Casino in Tulalip, Washington. This marks the second time CNHA will host its convention on the continent and the first time it will be held on federally recognized tribal land.  

CNHA acquires 43 acres in Hilo for affordable housing development

The Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement (CNHA) has acquired 43.08 acres of land in Hilo that will be designated for affordable housing. The acquisition signals CNHA’s plan to establish a private land trust specifically for housing Native Hawaiian and other Hawai‘i families. The parcel, located in the Kaumana subdivision of Ponahawai, Hilo, was purchased for an undisclosed amount from a landowner who wishes to remain anonymous.

Maui Mayor Richard Bissen acknowledged: “Housing was an issue on Maui and in West Maui before Aug. 8, and it became, obviously, a bigger issue after that.” “Our duty as government is to present the other options that people have. In a significant decision aimed at amplifying the voices of the people of Maui, the Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement has chosen to relocate its highly anticipated 22nd Annual Native Hawaiian Convention from Oʻahu to Maui. This year’s convention is scheduled to take place from Nov. 14-17, 2023, at the Maui Arts and Culture Center in Kahului, Maui.
