A teen visitor from Canada was rescued from waters at Puʻu Kekaʻa “Black Rock” in Kāʻanapali on Tuesday evening. The incident was reported at 5:47 p.m. on Aug. 4, 2026 about 100 yards from shore.

Seven paddlers were rescued from a double hull canoe offshore of Kīhei, Tuesday morning, when the vessel became partially swamped with water. 

Ocean Safety crews rescued a standup paddle boarder offshore of the Keālia Pond boardwalk on Sunday. The incident was reported at 8:32 a.m. on July 19, 2026.

One person died, and another was transported to the hospital in critical condition after being pulled unresponsive from waters in East Maui. The incident was reported Wednesday morning at Koki Beach in Hāna.

Two people were rescued after being swept off the rocky shoreline in South Maui by large surf. The incident was reported at 4:17 p.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026, in an area near the Hanamanioa lighthouse at the south end of LaPerouse Bay also known as Keoneʻōʻio in Mākena.

The search for a missing snorkeler off of Kāʻanapali ended at nightfall on Monday after three days.  The missing man, John Weems, 75, of North Carolina was reported missing late Friday afternoon, when he failed to return from snorkeling off Kāʻanapali Beach.  

Emergency responders launched a search by ground, air and ocean, and the missing man was located at around 11:08 a.m., about 100 feet feet down a cliff on the north side of Honokōhau Bay, in heavy vegetation.

The Maui Fire Department, in consultation with the Maui Police Department, suspended the search for the 71-year-old woman, who reportedly slipped into the Wailuku (ʻĪao) River near the Waiehu bridge on Saturday morning.

Firefighters and Ocean Safety personnel rescued two kayakers, a 37-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman, from waters off of Pāpalaua Beach Park in West Maui, Saturday morning.

A Maui man was airlifted to safety after becoming separated from his outrigger canoe offshore of Spreckelsville on Tuesday afternoon. The incident was reported at 4:17 p.m. on Jan. 6, along the north shore between Pāʻia and Kahului.

The Coast Guard heard two mayday calls at 5:40 a.m. coming from a man stating his boat was taking on water offshore of ʻĪlio Point, Molokaʻi.

Missing is Jared Willeford, 42, who was seen launching a yellow kayak at approximately 8 a.m. on Sunday offshore from Keauhou on Hawaiʻi Island.

The Coast Guard suspended its search at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday for two teens who went missing off the North Shore of Oʻahu. Missing are Samantha Chun, 17, and Joey Fujioka, 18, who were last seen on Ke Iki Beach near Sharks Cove late Friday night.

A High Surf Warning kept Maui’s Ocean Safety Officers busy over the weekend, on both the North Shore and the Upper West side of the island, with Jetski operators remaining on-duty until sunset as a precaution.
