Hawaiian Airlines, Hawai‘i’s biggest and longest-serving airline, today became the first U.S. carrier to allow members in its loyalty program to redeem miles for a pre-travel COVID-19 test.

The Maui Chamber of Commerce announced the musical entertainment and chef who will be featured during the 7th Annual Virtual Hawaiian Airlines Made in Maui County Festival livestream element of the event that takes place Nov. 7 and 8.

The Maui Chamber of Commerce announced Alaka‘i Paleka and Kathy Collins as the local celebrity hosts for the 7th Annual Virtual Hawaiian Airlines Made in Maui County Festival. The virtual event will feature shopping and interacting with vendors in virtual booths, a two-day live streaming component with QVC-style vendor presentations, sponsor messages, a chef’s demonstration, fashion show, vendor commercials, live musical entertainment and local programming.

Hawaiian Airlines today announced it will continue to provide ‘Ohana by Hawaiian passenger flights between Honolulu and both Moloka‘i and Lāna‘i through at least mid-January 2021. Earlier this month Hawaiian announced the need to suspend both routes on Nov. 1.

Hawaiian Airlines will reinstate its East Coast flying in December with twice-weekly nonstop service between Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport and Boston Logan International Airport; and three times-weekly service between HNL and New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.

All across Maui, hotels, vacation properties, car rental companies, restaurants, retail shops and other businesses that cater to the island’s 3 million or so annual travelers are preparing for the return of non-quarantining tourists, beginning Oct. 15. So what to expect? No one can say with any authority what numbers of visitors will travel to Maui through the end of the year. But most agree: The recovery is going to start out slowly.

Hawaiian Airlines today announced it will temporarily suspend ‘Ohana by Hawaiian passenger and cargo services effective Nov. 1. Hawaiian, which reduced its workforce by nearly 2,500 employees this month when the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Payroll Support Program expired, will suspend its ‘Ohana by Hawaiian passenger flights between Honolulu and Moloka‘i and Lāna‘i, as well as cargo-only service within the Hawaiian Islands. Service between HNL and Kapalua in West Maui was suspended in March.

Hawaiian Airlines today began offering travelers visiting or returning to the Hawaiian Islands from the US mainland a pre-travel COVID-19 test they can take at home to qualify to be exempt from the state of Hawai‘i quarantine.

Hawaiian will resume nonstop service between Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport and McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas starting tomorrow, and between HNL and Oakland, Phoenix and San Jose international airports on Nov. 1.

Hawaiian’s initial labs will be operational near Los Angeles (LAX) and San Francisco (SFO) International airports, with more testing locations coming soon at its other US mainland gateways.

The carrier, which has been operating a reduced schedule since March due to the pandemic and resulting travel restrictions, will continue to cap cabin capacity at 70 percent through October to allow for onboard distancing.

The 26th Annual Made in Hawaiʻi Festival is presenting a three-day virtual experience this year with culinary demonstrations from six Hawaiʻi chefs and live-stream entertainment from today through Aug. 23, 2020.  

Hawaiian Airlines is further enhancing its health measures throughout its system by requiring travelers two years of age and older to wear face coverings at check-in, boarding and during the flight.  Face coverings with mesh, sheer material or equipped with valves will be rejected.

Maui County’s largest annual products show, the Hawaiian Airlines Made in Maui County Festival, will return this year as a virtual event due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now in its seventh year, the popular event will kick off online during the first weekend of November.

Volunteers with the Hawaiian Airlines’ community outreach group, Team Kōkua, will be on Maui this month, working on projects to freshen up the King Kamehameha III Elementary campus and prepare it for the new school year.

Hawaiian is offering students registered for fall classes at Chaminade University, Hawai‘i Pacific University and the University of Hawai‘i a five percent fare discount on its transpacific flights, two complimentary checked bags and a flexible booking policy on all flights.

Hawaiian Airlines confirmed that eight employees who recently attended flight attendant training at the company’s Honolulu headquarters tested positive for COVID-19 this week after feeling ill.

Hawaiian Airlines today announced it will resume a reduced schedule between Hawaiʻi and most of its US mainland gateway cities on Aug. 1, when the state of Hawai‘i begins welcoming travelers who choose to participate in a pre-travel COVID-19 testing program being developed.

Hawaiian will offer up to six daily roundtrip flights between Honolulu and Līhu‘e, Kona and Hilo, and up to nine daily roundtrips between Honolulu and Kahului. The carrier’s ‘Ohana by Hawaiian operation will continue to offer twice daily service between Honolulu and Moloka‘i and Lāna‘i.

The Board of The Oʻahu Hawaiian Canoe Racing Association together with the organizing committee of Nā Wāhine O Ke Kai announced their decision today to cancel this year’s championship canoe races: the “Hawaiian Airlines Nā Wāhine O Ke Kai” scheduled for Sept. 27, 2020; and “Hawaiian Airlines Molokaʻi Hoe” scheduled on Oct. 11, 2020.
