Education officials say the enrollment gains can be partly attributed to the “large number of births in 2008″ and more students staying within the state’s public school system.

The Kīhei Charter School moved up one step from Priority to Focus after the correct calculations for the school’s graduation rate were factored in. DOE officials say the earlier report had incorrectly classified schools.

Rep. Mazie Hirono will be on Maui for the latest edition of her congressional coffee talks. The Maui visit includes a stop at the Kihei Charter School located at the Lipoa Center in South Maui. The talk starts at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 21.

The state of the art website not only provides general information about the state’s only STEM-focused school, but also encourages the community to learn more about its educational initiatives.


Kihei Charter School will be using Monsanto’s grant funds to purchase supplies for renewable energy experiments and hands-on lessons in physics.
