A Maui judge found that the state has established probable cause to try a man accused of murder in the shooting death of beloved Maui Officer Suzanne O, on Aug. 15, 2025 in Pāʻia. The decision came after two days of testimony from five witnesses during a preliminary hearing, with a detective, an officer and a forensic pathologist testifying on Friday.

The Maui Police Department is mourning the loss of one of their own following an officer-involved shooting in Pāʻia, Friday night. Police say the caller reported that an unknown individual had trespassed onto the property and fired a weapon at them. Upon arrival, officers encountered the armed suspect, who discharged a firearm, striking one of the responding officers.

Maui police are investigating a report of an early morning burglary and sex assault at a Haʻikū home reported two weeks ago. Officers responded to the residence at approximately 4:08 a.m. on Monday, July 28, 2025 after receiving a report of an unknown male entering the home without permission.

The 44-year-old Kīhei man was immediately taken into custody following allegations of sexual abuse of a minor and has been placed on administrative leave. The Maui Police Department, in partnership with the University of Hawaiʻi will conduct a one-day Joint Agency Emergency Preparedness Exercise on the UH Maui College campus from approximately 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. on Friday, June 13, 2025.

The Maui Police Department currently has five unclaimed bodies at the forensic facility. The individuals at the facility include: Hatsuno Borrowman, 92; Vinayak Vinayak, 75; Donald Breen, 74; John Darrow III, 70; and Rodney Saldin, 71.

Julian Mance, 67, was reported missing by a concerned acquaintance on Monday, June 2, 2025, after he left his Haʻikū residence on Friday, May 30, 205, at approximately 3 p.m. and has not returned home.  The last contact with Mance via phone was on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at approximately 3:30 p.m.
