A critical transmission line that serves as a back-up route of power to approximately 11,000 customers in West Maui is now online after Hawaiian Electric rebuilt the line along former routes in the Lahaina area with new steel and wood poles and electrical equipment.

Hawaiian Electric restoration efforts continue following West Maui fire

Hawaiian Electric is continuing restoration work to rebuild portions of the electric system in Lahaina in an effort to ensure safe and reliable power to all West Maui customers following the August 2023 wildfires. Ongoing restoration efforts include the rebuilding of transmission and distribution lines along former routes in the Lahaina area with the installation of new interim steel poles and electrical equipment.

Hundreds of customers without power in Kahului

Hawaiian Electric reports that power was restored to most impacted customers in Kahului by 2:20 p.m., however 35 customers remained offline. Crews continue to investigate the outage, which was first reported at around 12:20 p.m.

Update/Restored: More than 1,000 without power in Kīhei/Wailea

As of 5 p.m., power has been restored to all customers, according to Hawaiian Electric Company.

Update/Restored: Backhoe snags line, knocking out power to 2,300 in West Maui

Update: 3 p.m. An estimated 2,300 customers in the Mahinahina area of West Maui experienced an outage when a backhoe being used by a private construction company snagged a guy anchor line on a pole.
