Nearly $1 Million Headed To Hawai‘i To Increase COVID-19 Testing For Pacific Islander Communities

Pacific Islanders account for 28 percent of COVID-19 infections, despite being just 4 percent of the state’s population. UH Mānoa will receive $958,613 from the National Institutes of Health to increase the reach, access and uptake of COVID-19 testing among Pacific Islander communities in Hawai‘i and Guam.

Nov. 18, 2020 COVID-19 Update: 71 New Cases (59 O‘ahu, 2 Hawai‘i Island, 2 Maui, 8 Out of State); 1 Death

There were 71 new COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i today, including 59 on O‘ahu, two each on Hawai‘i Island and Maui, and eight in Hawai‘i residents diagnosed outside of the state. Maui cases were reported in Wailuku and Lahaina according to the latest mapping updates provided by the state Department of Health.

Grants Available for Nursing Homes to Buy Visitation Equipment for In-Person Visits

A total of $135,000 is available. Skilled nursing facilities may apply for grants up to $3,000 for equipment that includes clear barriers for indoor visits and tents for outdoor visits.

Nov. 17, 2020 COVID-19 Update: 53 New Cases (37 O‘ahu, 6 Hawai‘i Island, 2 Maui, 8 Out of State)

There were 53 new COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i today, including 37 on O‘ahu, six on Hawai‘i Island, two on Maui, and eight in Hawai‘i residents diagnosed outside of the state. Kaua‘i, Lānaʻi and Moloka‘i had no new cases today.  At least one of the new Maui cases was in Kīhei according to the latest mapping updates provided by the state Department of Health.

Fresh Produce Distribution Set for Nov. 18 on Lanai

Fresh produce will be distributed on Lanaʻi to families impacted by COVID-19 on Wednesday, Nov. 18. The distribution will take place from 1 to 2 pm, or until supplies run out.

Hawaiian Airlines, Hawai‘i’s biggest and longest-serving airline, today became the first U.S. carrier to allow members in its loyalty program to redeem miles for a pre-travel COVID-19 test.

No New COVID-19 Data Today Due to DOH Time Shift in Data Window Reporting

“This additional time provides DOH and its partners a more sustainable data timeline and allows for greater accuracy in reporting COVID-19 statistics. It also makes Hawai‘i’s data timeline more consistent with the timeline of other states, counties, and municipalities across the country,” according to an update provided by the DOH.

Moloka‘i Drive-Through Food Distribution, Friday, Nov. 20

Mayor Michael Victorino announced that a food distribution event will be held on Nov. 20, 2020, for Molokaʻi residents in need. The event is scheduled for 9 a.m. at the Mitchell Pauʻole Community Center in Kaunakakai.

State Adds “Trusted Partners” for Domestic Trans-Pacific, Inter-County Pre-Travel Testing Program

The State of Hawai‘i has added new trusted partners for its domestic transpacific and inter-county pre-travel testing programs. The state will accept COVID-19 test results from the new partners starting Nov. 17.

Maui Police Issue 264 Citations for Mask Violations Over Two Weeks

Maui Police issued 264 citations for face mask violations over a two week period between Oct. 30 and Nov. 12.  County officials say 209 were issued to residents and 55 were to visitors.

There were 97 new COVID-19 cases in Hawai‘i today, including 72 on O‘ahu, 15 on Hawai‘i Island, six on Maui, one on Kaua‘i and three in Hawai‘i residents diagnosed outside of the state. The cases on Maui included one case each in Kahului, Wailuku, Kīhei and Makawao, and two cases in Haʻikū, according to map changes recorded by the state Department of Health.

Drive-Through COVID-19 Testing Monday, Nov. 16, in Pā‘ia-Ha‘ikū

Drive-through COVID-19 testing will be held on Monday, Nov. 16, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Pāʻia Community Center.
