284 New COVID-19 Cases in Hawai‘i (273 O‘ahu, 7 Maui, 3 Hawai‘i Island, 1 Kaua‘i)

The state has reported another triple digit increase in new COVID-19 cases with 284 new cases today including 273 on Oʻahu, seven on Maui, three on Hawaiʻi Island and one on Kauaʻi.  More than 96% of the active cases statewide are on the island of Oʻahu.

Missing Person: Man Known to Frequent Kīhei Area

\Maui police are seeking the public’s help in locating Ryan Rodriguez, 28, who was reported missing at around 8:20 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 14, 2020. Rodriguez was last seen, shortly before 8:20 p.m., walking in the area of Kauhale Street wearing a white T-shirt and tan shorts with no shoes.

As of noon today, Maui Health confirmed that there are a total of four health care workers and five patients at Maui Memorial Medical Center who have tested positive for COVID-19. The health care workers are in quarantine at home and the patients have been isolated in the hospital’s COVID-19 warm unit.

There are a total of 355 newly diagnosed cases today, a record single day case count since the beginning of the pandemic. This includes 85 cases that are part of a cluster at the O‘ahu Community Correctional Center facility.  Today’s case count includes 343 cases on O‘ahu, seven on Maui, four on Hawai‘i Island and one on Kaua‘i. 

BREAKING: Additional 70 OCCC Inmates, 7 Corrections Officers Test Positive for COVID-19

In all, approximately 110 inmates were tested Tuesday with 70 testing positive and 40 negative.  Another 63 inmates were tested yesterday and those test results are pending.

Accumulation of COVID-19 Cases on Maui Expected to Show in Upcoming Reports

County and state officials are projecting a bump in COVID-19 cases reported Maui in the coming days as the state Department of Health is expected to release data accumulated over the past week.

The Kamehameha Maui campus transitions to a full distance learning program today, through at least the end of the month.   The decision was shared with the school community last night after three days of hybrid or blended learning had already begun.
