Small Town * Big Art shared an overview of its pilot year of public arts programming for Wailuku Town and is encouraging the public to provide feedback on its projects to improve next year’s programming.

Japanese American actor and producer Shin Koyamada is the guest speaker for the Japanese Cultural Society of Maui’s virtual Shinnen Enkai celebration at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021. Registration for the event is available online.

The film “The Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Permanent Collection of Art and Craft,” explores how public works of art are integrated into the architecture of the MACC complex.

Maui Ocean Center, which has been closed since March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will reopen in three phases, beginning Friday, Jan. 15, 2021 with Mālama Kekahi I Kekahi (to take care of each other) in mind. Reservations are required.

What started out as Ana Eyre’s senior project for King Kekaulike High School about her family’s cross-country trip in a 1982 G-Wagon fueled by cooking oil turned into an award-winning documentary at the 2020 Hawaiʻi International Film Festival.

Live @ the MACC is presenting a free streaming concert on Saturday, Jan. 9 at 7:30 p.m. featuring Gypsy Pacific. The concert will stream on MauiArts.org, the MACC’s Facebook and YouTube pages.

“Village by the Sea”, a watercolor by Lahaina artist, Jim Kingwell, was chosen as the official Lahaina Poster image by Juror and esteemed artist, George Allan from a field of 36 entries.

The Maui Arts and Cultural Center is presenting a free livestreaming concert of violinist Ignance “Iggy” Jang and pianist Jonathan Korth on Jan. 2 at 7:30 pm.

Two-time Grammy Award-winning Hawaiian musician Kalani Pe‘a returns to the Kahilu Theatre, streaming live via Kahilu.TV on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2021 at 4 pm.

Consolidated Theatres are offering guests private screenings of “Wonder Woman 1984” from Dec. 25, 2020 through Jan. 3, 2021 by buying out an auditorium. The private screening is open to guests and 30 of their closest friends and family.

ProArts Online is presenting a pay-what-you-can show called  “A Very Virtual Holiday Special.” The show is available online and features performances from local artists and musicians.

Jim Kingwell’s watercolor, Village by the Sea, was chosen by juror, George Allen, as the winner of the 31st annual Lahaina Poster contest during the recent Friday Night is Art Night in Lahaina.

Live @ the MACC is presenting a free live streaming concert from The Maui Pops Orchestra at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 20. The orchestra will be performing holiday tunes including White Christmas, The Christmas Song, Winter Wonderland and Mele Kalikimaka.

The Maui Arts and Cultural Center hosts “Live @ the MACC,” a live streaming event this Saturday, Dec. 19, starting at 7:30 p.m., featuring Hālau Kekuaokalāʻauʻalaʻiliahi.

All in Da Aloha will hold its final live stream concert this year on Dec. 19, 2020, live from the Guava Tree Bar and Grill. The Christmas streaming concert will feature the Hawaiian Homeboy & Friends hosted by Shane Kahalehau. 

A Wailuku girl is one of 34 kids whose drawings are featured in “The Ickabog” by J.K. Rowling.  The fairy tale book is Rowling’s first children’s book in 13 years, since the last Harry Potter book was published in 2007.

The Nisei Veterans Memorial Center announced the guests for its upcoming free virtual Ta-Ke Leadership series throughout the month of December.

The Lahaina Restoration Foundation invites the public to spend the evening in Lahaina and enjoy the colorful lights which will be illuminated nightly from 6 p.m. to midnight for the entire month of December.
