Maui Election

Members of the Democratic Party of Hawaiʻi have elected Tyler Dos Santos-Tam to be State Chairperson for a two-year term, from 2020-2022.

US Senators Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) and Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) led 29 of their colleagues in a letter to Vice President Mike Pence and Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator Peter Gaynor urging them to take immediate action to provide Personal Protective Equipment and sanitizing supplies for election and poll workers—and voters—ahead of the November 2020 election.

Registered voters in Maui County may receive their ballot packets as early as July 15. 

The Ha’ikū Community Association (HCA) will host an online Candidate Forum Wednesday July 8, 2020 virtually on Zoom. The meeting will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

A 33 member National Delegation has been elected by the Democratic Party of Hawai’i to represent the state at the Democratic National Convention. 

The deadline for candidates to file their nomination paper to appear on the 2020 Election ballot is Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at 4:30 p.m. 

The election results will determine the number of delegates committed to each candidate at the Democratic National Convention.

The Democratic Party of Hawai’i has announced the cancellation of the statewide 2020 Party-Run walk-in Presidential Primary scheduled for April 4th.  Due to the CDC Covid19  pre-cautions and stay-at-home requirements, on-site voting locations for Maui County have been canceled.

Today, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard announced her decision to suspend her campaign for US President and offer backing to Joe Biden “in his quest to bring the country together.”

The Friends of Gil Keith-Agaran have canceled their campaign fundraiser that was originally scheduled for March 24 at the Maui Waena Intermediate School. Councilmember Yuki Lei Sugimura has cancelled her monthly talk story event at the Upcountry Farmer’s Market that was scheduled today; and her campaign has cancelled a fundraiser that was scheduled for March 18. 

The Democratic Party of Hawai‘i Precinct, District, County, and State Conventions Delegate Elections take place tonight (March 4, 2020) at locations across the state. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the meetings begin at 7 p.m.

The former Hawaii News Now general manager made his announcement in front of more than 100 supporters at Old Stadium Park in Mōʻiliʻili on Wednesday.

Today, West Maui’s Councilmember Tamara Paltin, filed nomination papers to run for her second two year term on the Maui County Council. She is among a list of council candidates that have either pulled papers or filed for candidacy since the filing period opened on Feb. 3. 

Tusli Gabbard is among a list of 12 candidates that will appear on the Democratic Party of Hawaii Party-run Presidential Primary ballot.  

In the 14-page complaint, Rep. Gabbard, who is running for president, alleges that Clinton lied “publicly, unambiguously” and with “malicious intent.”  The lawsuit says Gabbard “seeks to hold Clinton, and the political elites who enable her, accountable for distorting the truth in the middle of a critical Presidential election.”

The Office of Elections and the County Clerks of Hawaiʻi have sent out postcards to voters confirming their voter registration and announcing the transition to voting by mail beginning with the 2020 Elections.

The Office of the County Clerk on Maui will use the Velma McWayne Santos Community Center in Wailuku as a voter service center for the 2020 elections.

Tulsi Gabbard will be making her first official visit to Pennsylvania as a candidate for president.

A special election will be held for the District IV seat on the Honolulu City Council, representing Hawai‘i Kai to Waikīkī and Ala Moana Beach Park.
