Dec. 16, 2020 COVID-19 Update: 110 New Cases (85 O‘ahu, 14 Maui, 5 Hawai‘i Island, 6 Out-of-State); 4 Deaths
There were 110 new COVID-19 cases reported in Hawai‘i on Wednesday, including 14 on Maui. The new Maui infections include 10 cases in Lahaina, two in Kīhei and one in Wailuku. One case on Maui is unaccounted for in the mapping update. Of the 856 cases documented in Maui County over the course of the pandemic, Lahaina has the most current infections with 60 cases reported over the past two weeks.

Maui police responded to six burglaries, 11 vehicle thefts and six vehicle break-ins in Maui County over a seven day period from Dec. 6 to 12, 2020.

Dec. 15, 2020 COVID-19 Update: 57 New Cases (35 O‘ahu, 8 Maui, 10 Hawai‘i Island, 4 Out-of-State)
There were 57 new COVID-19 cases reported in Hawai‘i on Tuesday, including eight on Maui. The new Maui infections include four in Lahaina, three in Wailuku and one in Kīhei. In Maui County, Lahaina has the most current infections with 53 cases reported over the past two weeks. Lahaina darkened to the high rate of infection category today, which is defined as locations with anywhere from 51 to 200 cases reported over 14 days. It is the only location in the county that is listed as such.

Ha‘ikū Residents Bring Back Quiet Nights Through Coqui Control Program
Over the years, MISC has been able to eradicate 21 discrete coqui populations on the island. Individual residents can receive free powdered citric acid to control coqui on their property once MISC has confirmed that coqui are present. Residents can also borrow a 9-gallon walk-behind sprayer or a 100-gallon sprayer that fits in the back of a pickup truck. MISC provides training on how to effectively use the sprayers.
UH Maui College Student Highlights Children’s Book About Climate Change and Coral Reefs
Ali Miller, a marine naturalist and UH Maui College student before the COVID-19 pandemic, was featured in the Mares Scuba Diving blog. Miller was featured for her children’s book “How Cara Lost Her Color,” the book highlights the impacts of climate change on the mass bleaching of coral reefs globally.
Man Accidentally Shot at Waiehu Residence, Investigation Ongoing
A 26-year-old man was transported to the Queen’s Medical Center after he was accidentally shot at a residence in Waiehu on Saturday night.
