The County of Maui hosts a Christmas drive-through event at the Kalana O Maui County Building in Wailuku as Mayor Michael Victorino shares holiday snacks and good cheer.

Ka Hale Hoaka, an online Hawaiian learning school based on Molokaʻi, announced its Keiki Program that is offered to people of all ages, ethnic backgrounds and geographical locations.

There were 110 new COVID-19 cases reported in Hawai‘i on Wednesday, including 14 on Maui. The new Maui infections include 10 cases in Lahaina, two in Kīhei and one in Wailuku.  One case on Maui is unaccounted for in the mapping update. Of the 856 cases documented in Maui County over the course of the pandemic, Lahaina has the most current infections with 60 cases reported over the past two weeks.

Maui police responded to six burglaries, 11 vehicle thefts and six vehicle break-ins in Maui County over a seven day period from Dec. 6 to 12, 2020.

As Congressman-Elect Kai Kahele has submitted a letter of resignation from the State Senate District 1 seat, the Democratic Party of Hawaiʻi has begun the process to identify three prospective candidates to send to Governor David Y. Ige for his consideration.

A Haʻikū man has succumbed to injuries sustained in a weekend motorcycle crash at the Dairy Road, Hukilike Street intersection in Kahului. Police say 28-year-old Matthew Perreira died on Tuesday morning while at the Maui Memorial Medical Center.  

In preparation for phase one of COVID19 vaccine distribution on Maui, a vaccination trial-run was held in the parking lot of the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College on Tuesday morning.

Governor David Ige was on hand when staff at the Tripler Army Medical Center opened the facility’s first shipment of the COVID-19 vaccine today.

A 34-year-old Oregon man was arrested on Maui on Monday, Dec. 14 for allegedly violating Rules and Orders pertaining to a quarantine violation.  

On Sunday, Dec. 13, 2020, at about 10:30 a.m., Jordan Ware, 34, of Wailuku was arrested for Rules and Orders, pertaining to quarantine violation, police said.

The skunk was spotted roaming around in the container yard early in the morning and was reported to harbor security by a biologist surveying for stranded sea bird fledglings.

While some whales have already arrived, the majority will be in Hawai‘i between January and March. Iconic humpback whales in Hawai‘i are protected by state and federal agencies. Approaching humpback whales when on or in the water within 100 yards or within 1,000 feet by air (including drones) can impact the animals and is illegal.

There were 57 new COVID-19 cases reported in Hawai‘i on Tuesday, including eight on Maui. The new Maui infections include four in Lahaina, three in Wailuku and one in Kīhei. In Maui County, Lahaina has the most current infections with 53 cases reported over the past two weeks. Lahaina darkened to the high rate of infection category today, which is defined as locations with anywhere from 51 to 200 cases reported over 14 days. It is the only location in the county that is listed as such.

A Maui dentist got a bad birthday present. His 16-year-old Toyota Tacoma 4 x 4, which was at a dealership for servicing, was stolen off a locked lot during the night.

Maui County Councilmembers and staff collected donations for Maui United Way’s Holiday Toy Drive. The gifts will go to children receiving services from Maui United Way and Friends of the Children’s Justice Center.

Hawaiʻi Attorney General Clare E. Connors joined 51 Attorneys General in a letter urging Congress to pass legislation to protect federal judges and their families.

Over the years, MISC has been able to eradicate 21 discrete coqui populations on the island. Individual residents can receive free powdered citric acid to control coqui on their property once MISC has confirmed that coqui are present. Residents can also borrow a 9-gallon walk-behind sprayer or a 100-gallon sprayer that fits in the back of a pickup truck. MISC provides training on how to effectively use the sprayers.

Ali Miller, a marine naturalist and UH Maui College student before the COVID-19 pandemic, was featured in the Mares Scuba Diving blog. Miller was featured for her children’s book “How Cara Lost Her Color,” the book highlights the impacts of climate change on the mass bleaching of coral reefs globally. 

A 26-year-old man was transported to the Queen’s Medical Center after he was accidentally shot at a residence in Waiehu on Saturday night.
