County to Accept Public Testimony on Proposed Wailuku Hotel

Maui residents will have three opportunities to offer input on a proposed hotel that would sit on the corner of Main and Market Streets in Wailuku.

$692K Ha‘ikū Community Center Improvement Project Underway

Work has begun on a $692,546 upgrade project at the Haʻikū Community Center’s restroom and kitchen. The community center has been closed because of COVID-19, and improvement work will keep it closed through April 30, 2021.

There were no new COVID-19 case reported today, with Hawaiʻi’s COVID-19 case total remaining at 652. To date, 608 people (95.7%) have recovered including 110 in Maui County. There are currently 27 active cases in the state.

The number of out-of-state travelers to Hawaiʻi continues to climb with more than 1,200 people arriving in Hawaiʻi on Saturday. That included 369 visitors and 373 returning residents.  There were no trans-Pacific flights to Maui on Saturday.

A fire at the Texaco service station on Papalaua Street in West Maui early Sunday morning caused an estimated $250,000 in damage. 

CIvil Air Patrol Assists In Delivery of PPE and Medical Supplies to Maui

Over the weekend, volunteers with the Hawaiʻi Wing Civil Air Patrol delivered more than 800 pounds of medical supplies and Personal Protective Equipment to the Maui Emergency Management Agency to support first responders.  The delivery was made with the help of Maui’s 057 squadron.

There are currently 27 active cases in the state. Of the 120 cases in Maui County, at least 110 have been released from isolation, and 22 have required hospitalization.

Maui Fire Crews Douse Fire at Gas Station on Papalaua Street in Lahaina

An overnight fire at a gas station on Papalaua Street in Lahaina on Maui forced road closures and detours while crews battled the blaze. Maui police rerouted traffic onto Front Street for the duration.   A portion of the Honoapiʻilani Highway was closed beginning at 1 a.m.; and all roads were reopened at 5:23 a.m.

Nine Boyd Gaming Nevada Properties to Reopen on June 4

Boyd Gaming Corporation announced plans to resume operations at nine of its Nevada properties on Thursday, June 4, pending receipt of final regulatory approvals. The peaceful demonstration, which began at 10 a.m., included a line of individuals holding signs and chanting “I can’t breathe,” as passing motorists honked horns.   The rally comes on the heels of the May 25th death of George Floyd in Minneapolis and the ongoing protests that have followed.
