The 26th Annual Made in Hawaiʻi Festival is presenting a three-day virtual experience this year with culinary demonstrations from six Hawaiʻi chefs and live-stream entertainment from today through Aug. 23, 2020.
Maui Partners with ‘Pop-Up Makeke’ Program
Four TV shows will be filmed on Maui in October and December featuring Maui County products. The program will be televised Sunday nights on KHNL and KGMB, and re-broadcast Wednesday nights on KFVE.

Carden Academy of Maui Confirms Two Students Tested Positive for COVID-19
Carden Academy of Maui in Pukalani reports that it received notification on Thursday that two students tested positive for COVID-19. The campus advisory panel, board of directors and nurse had already implemented a physical closure and conversion to distance learning on Wednesday, Aug. 19, prior to the positive case notifications.
230 New COVID-19 Cases (209 O‘ahu, 13 Hawai‘i Island, 6 Maui, 2 Kaua‘i); One More O‘ahu Death
There are 230 new COVID-19 cases in Hawaiʻi today including: 209 on Oʻahu, 13 on Hawaiʻi Island, six on Maui and two on Kauaʻi. Of the 269 cases in Maui County, at least 166 have been released from isolation, and 35 have required hospitalization. Based on the current numbers, there are 96 active cases in Maui County.
Maui Island Unemployment Rate is Highest in State at 22%
The rate on Maui Island was 22 percent in July, the highest in the state, followed by Kauaʻi’s 18.7 percent, Hawaiʻi County’s 12.8 percent, Honolulu’s 11.1 percent, Molokaʻi’s 7.9 percent and Lānaʻi’s 4.8 percent rate.
Maui Police Issue 1,069 Rules and Orders Citations, Including 113 Arrests Over Course of Pandemic
Since March of 2020, the Maui Police Department has issued 1,069 citations for Rules and Order violations. County officials say 410 of the citations were issued at a beach or a park.
Maui Hospital Confirms Two More COVID-19 Cases
Maui Health identified two additional positive COVID-19 patients on Thursday, bringing the total number of infections at the facility since last week Thursday, Aug. 13, to 47. Total infections over the past eight days include 26 patients and 21 health care workers.
