Pacific Permanente Group’s Dr. Fatima Imara honored as Hawaiʻi Physician of the Year

Pacific Permanente Group psychiatrist Fatima Imara, MD was recently named the Healthcare Association of Hawaiʻi’s Physician of the Year for 2024. This peer award recognizes Imara’s contributions to behavioral health care and her compassionate service to the Maui community, particularly during the aftermath of the Maui wildfires, according to an announcement.

UH: Drug-resistant pathogen spread studied in waterways

New groundbreaking research aims to evaluate potential human health risks from bacteria in surface water systems across four US states. The project involving the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa will assess the environmental spread of antimicrobial-resistant pathogens—disease-causing microorganisms that have evolved to withstand the effects of antibiotics and other medicines designed to kill them—through wastewater discharge and agricultural runoff.

Draft of Lahaina Long-Term Recovery Plan available for online viewing, public feedback

A draft of the County of Maui’s Long-Term Recovery Plan for Lahaina is available for online viewing and public feedback online starting today. In addition to the online feedback opportunity, the Lahaina community is invited to attend open houses on Wednesday, Oct. 23 from 4 to 7 p.m., and on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Trash, invasive trees and abandoned vehicles to be removed from 5-acre County-owned parcel at Ukumehame

In coordination with Mālama Maui Nui and Kane’s Legacy Tree Services, the County of Maui will be conducting trash removal, invasive tree cleanup and abandoned vehicles disposal during a three-day period from Oct. 23-25 at a 5-acre parcel owned by the County directly mauka of mile marker 13.5 in Ukumehame, West Maui.
