#Art of Trash

The community is invited to celebrate creativity, sustainability, and talent at the upcoming Art of Trash 2026 event. Opening day is April 18, 2026 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Maui Mall Village.

Mālama Maui Nui is now accepting submissions from Maui County artists for the 2026 Art of Trash & Trashion Show, an annual, juried exhibition that inspires creative reuse and environmental awareness across the Maui Nui community.

Illegal dumping continues to threaten Maui’s land and waters, but Mālama Maui Nui is stepping up efforts to protect the environment. Between April and June 2025, the nonprofit recovered 104 tons of waste from Maui alone through cleanups and community hotspotting initiatives.

Mālama Maui Nui has announced that submissions are now open for The Art of Trash & Trashion Show 2025, which will be featured at Maui Mall Villages from April 19 to May 17.

Maui Mall Village is pleased to once again host The Art of Trash & Trashion Show, which kicks off on Earth Day, April 22, 2024. Mālama Maui Nui presents the annual programs to promote the vital message of upcycling through the imaginative transformation of trash. Kamaʻāina and visitors can attend the free opening night “trashion” show and visit the gallery conveniently located at Maui Mall Village.

All entries should be made from Maui’s abundance of discarded material that are reimagined, recreated and recycled.

The Art of Trash exhibition and Trashion Show, which feature the reimagination of previously used materials, opens today at MalamaMauiNui.org/ArtOfTrash.

On Maui, there are nearly 30 events scheduled that include a spectrum of activities across the county: native plant restoration at Keālia Pond National Wildlife Refuge; Honolua Bay cleanup; Nā Ho Aloha needs volunteers for lawn care for seniors; and more.

Mālama Maui Nui is accepting submissions for the 2022 Art of Trash and Trashion Show, a juried event that inspires community members to reimagine resources and create art and fashion using recycle and/or reused material.

Art of Trash 2021 is seeking submissions Feb. 1 to March 1 for its annual juried exhibition of reimagined resources that will be held virtually in April.

This interactive virtual gallery will be open for one month and will premiere on Earth Day (April 22) on the Mālama Maui Nui website.

“We have seen some incredible designs made out of transformed trash such as old VHS tapes into a gogo dancer skirt or used Maui Brewing Company grain bags into a corset-style dress. What this year will bring no one knows, you’ll just have to come to the event to find out,” event organizers said. 

Maui’s 2017 Art of Trash show will be accepting entries for the annual juried art exhibition from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 1 at the Maui Mall.

The Art of Trash 2012, presented by Community Work Program and SharingAloha, will be held April 20 at 6:00 p.m. at Maui Mall.
