Emergency responders are on the scene of a motor vehicle accident in Makawao. Video from the scene at around 7:38 p.m. on Friday, May 29, 2026, shows a vehicle that appears to have collided with a motorcycle near the intersection of Makawao Avenue and Baldwin Avenue. Police say the caller reported that an unknown individual had trespassed onto the property and fired a weapon at them. Upon arrival, officers encountered the armed suspect, who discharged a firearm, striking one of the responding officers.

The Piʻilani Highway in Kaupō is closed from Mile 19 to Mile 21 due to flooding. As of 8:33 a.m., Maui police have closed South Kīhei Road from North Kīhei Road to Kūlanihākoʻi Street due to flooding at multiple intersections. Motorists should avoid the area.

Crews Respond to Multi-Vehicle Traffic Accident in Pā‘ia
Fire crews and medics are on the scene of a traffic accident involving multiple vehicles in Pāʻia reported at around 7 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2020. Clean up crews were caring debris from the Hāna Highway east of the Baldwin Avenue intersection. Vehicles involved were moved to the side of the road, but delays in traffic were reported.

Maui police say William Douglas Allen has been located and arrested. Police thanked the public for their assistance. Police are are conducing a Homicide type investigation and had temporarily closed the area of Holomua Road and Baldwin Avenue.

Road Paving on Kaluanui Road to Impact Traffic
A portion of Kaluanui Road in Makawao will be fully closed from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday Aug. 26 to Thursday, Aug. 29 and again from Wednesday, Sept. 4 to Friday, Sept. 13 for an in-house road preservation project.
