Maui County Farm Bureau launched this year’s Maui AgFest & 4-H Livestock Fair by naming Dr. Harold Keyser as this year’s Maui Legacy Farmer. The 17th edition of the event took place on May 30 at the War Memorial Special Events Field.

More than 1,500 Maui residents and visitors — some from as far away as Canada and Italy — ran and walked in last weekend’s 15th annual Maui 5K at Maui Ocean Center, raising a record $83,000 for Maui Nui schools.

Maui Ocean Center will present the 15th annual Maui 5K from 7 to 9 a.m. Sunday, March 1. Online registration, including new youth rates for ages 5 to 17, ends Feb. 26.

Speed limit permanently reduced to 35 mph along a portion Kula Highway

Maui motorists are advised that the posted speed limit on Kula Highway (Route 37) between Lower Kula Road in the vicinity of the United States Post Office and Copp Road will be reduced from 45 mph to 35 mph in both directions.

Maui Schools Show Marked Improvement in Chronic Absenteeism Rates

Kula Elementary School saw the greatest improvement in Maui County, with its Chronic Absenteeism rate dropping to 13% from 32% reported the year before. The best performance in Maui County was at Kilohana Elementary on Molokaʻi which reported a 4% Chronic Absenteeism rate.
