The Maui Police Department’s Crisis Intervention Team welcomed 22 new members to its list of trained personnel during a graduation ceremony on Friday, April 25, 2025.

The Hoʻoikaika Partnership, a coalition of more than 75 organizations and individuals, will host a series of community events this month to raise awareness about child abuse and neglect prevention in Maui County.

Twenty new members have completed 20 hours of training and joined the ranks of the Maui Police Department’s Crisis Intervention Team. This is the 16th class to complete the program launched as the first of its kind in 2013.

As many wildfire survivors struggle with adapting to the changes in their lives, Maui Behavioral Health Resources is hosting free supportive groups and activities for women, families and individuals in West Maui.

A new resource for women who have been affected by the Maui wildfire disaster is coming to Central Maui.

The program helps youth who are not able to receive care in their own home but can achieve stability and growth in a caring atmosphere where they can receive parental supervision, guidance and support.

The Pūlama nā ‘Ohana team from Maui Behavioral Health Resources has been working in the community for the past several months to provide assistance to those effected by the Maui wildfires.

Maui Behavioral Health Resources is looking to hire several positions to better serve the community’s behavioral health needs during the aftermath of the tragic fires.

Stephen Kealoha of Pukalani, Judith Mikami of Kaunakakai, and Betty Yamashiro of Kahului were selected to receive Maui County Outstanding Older American awards for 2023.

The nonprofit Maui Youth & Family Services is the recipient of a $4,000 donation from Ledcor Maui LP, a division of Ledcor Group. The gift comes as part of the Ledcor Group’s 75th anniversary celebration.

Maui Youth & Family Services hosts a car wash fundraiser at the ʻOhana Fuels location at 85 S. Wākea Avenue in Kahului, on Saturday, March 18, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The cost of the car wash is a suggested donation of $10 per car.

On the 30th anniversity of National Addiction Professional Day, Maui Behavioral Health Resources and its three agencies – Aloha House, Malama Family Recovery Center and Maui Youth & Family Services – recognize the vital roles of its own addiction professionals.

Makawao merchants have hung purple lights for the first observance of International Overdose Awareness Day on Maui.

Maui Behavioral Health announced the installation of Randol Leach as a new member of the organization’s board of directors, effective July 1, 2022. Leach is a Financial Consultant with Maui Investment Services.

Malama Family Recovery Center will receive a grant of $90,000 per year for two years from the Nuestro Futuro Foundation to support a pilot project of the new Supplemental Treatment Program.

“Jeff Bezos, Lauren Sanchez, and Shep Gordon stopped by for a tour of the Food Bank,” said Marlene Rice, Development Director at the Maui Food Bank. “It was wonderful to meet Jeff, and we are very grateful for the generosity he has extended to Maui Food Bank and other nonprofits on Maui.”

“We forget that addiction is a disease and affects the whole family, especially children. Since my son died of an accidental opioid overdose over two years ago, I’ve been involved in the recovery world helping families mourn, remember their loved ones and get active,” said Vincent.

On Maui, resources are available through Maui Behavioral Health Resources and its three partner agencies: Aloha House, Mālama Family Recovery Center, and Maui Youth & Family Services. The three agencies each provide substance use disorder treatment, mental health treatment, and prevention and sober support programs.

Funds will also help replace a deficit of funding from a federal grant that was not renewed this year. Mālama serves approximately 90 women and 50 youth annually, with at least 85% identifying as unsheltered.

Aloha House, Maui Youth & Family Services and Malama Family Recovery Center have received new 3-year accreditations from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.
