New passenger waiting area dedicated at Kahului Airport on Maui

The new space, which serves Gates 1 to 15 in the airport’s southern concourse, was constructed by connecting two existing waiting areas, each approximately 6,000 square feet, and enclosing the open-air walkway that separated them. The result is a spacious 17,000-square-feet, air-conditioned area that can seat 460 passengers. In addition, a newly created garden deck provides an outdoor seating option for Kahului passengers.

Alaska Airlines clears last regulatory hurdle to finalize merger with Hawaiian Airlines

The US Department of Transportation has given Alaska Airlines permission to close on its $1.9 billion acquisition of Hawaiian Airlines, after the carriers agreed to maintain key Hawaii routes and adopt consumer protections. This exemption allows the carriers, which are respectively the fifth and tenth largest domestic airlines, to finalize their merger while maintaining separate operations until DOT rules on their transfer application.

BREAKING: Kahului Airport to get a new TSA checkpoint thanks to $22M federal grant

The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation will receive a $22 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration to construct a new Transportation Security Administration checkpoint at Kahului Airport. The OGG project will cost $62.3 million. Work is expected to begin in the summer of 2024 and to be completed by the end of 2025.

Preliminary Data: 6,441 Passengers Arriving Daily to Kahului, Maui

Here on Maui, April numbers are exceeding pre-pandemic levels for the same period in 2018 and 2019. The DBEDT preliminary data shows that so far in April, there’s an average of 6,441 passengers arriving daily to Kahului Airport on domestic (including mainland and interisland) flights, up 7.2 percent (433 more passengers) from two years ago in 2019, and up 14 percent (793 more passengers) from three years ago in 2018.
