County of Maui Department of Agriculture is seeking community input from Molokaʻi, Lānaʻi and Maui residents on the second draft of the Maui County Food and Nutrition Security Plan before it is finalized next month.

The County of Maui Department of Agriculture is collaborating with community partners across Maui, Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi to develop a Food and Nutrition Security Plan and is seeking help prioritizing strategies to support Maui County’s food system. Those interested in helping the department prioritize the plan’s draft objectives and provide feedback on what’s missing from the plan may complete a 10-minute survey before Oct. 11, 2024.

The County of Maui Department of Agriculture will host Community Talk Story sessions in communities throughout Maui County starting this week through March to obtain residents’ input on solutions they want to see included in the Maui County Food and Nutrition Security Plan. 

The County of Maui Department of Agriculture launched a Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle Working Group to address the threat of the invasive Coconut Rhinoceros Beetle, which was reported recently in Kīhei. 

The Maui Farmer Network offers Farmer Navigational Coaching to small and beginning regenerative farmers across Maui County. In 2024, MFN will continue coaching and supporting about 45 farmers on a regular basis. Entering its 3rd year of programming, MFN is supported by funding from the County of Maui’s newly formed Department of Agriculture, and the Atherton Family Foundation.

Mayor Michael Victorino on Tuesday announced the confirmation of Rogerene “Kali” Arce as the first director of Maui County’s new Department of Agriculture.

Mayor Victorino announced today the selection of Rogerene “Kali” Arce of Molokaʻi and Weston Yap as Director designee and Deputy Director respectively of the newly created Maui Department of Agriculture.

Annual salary for the Director was increased from $90,000 to $114,000 and from $70,000 to $102,600 for the Deputy Director. The new application deadline is on Monday, May 30, 2022.

The newly established Maui Department of Agriculture will open on July 1, 2022, and the County of Maui is recruiting a Director and Deputy Director of Agriculture.

Maui County has set up a new web page as part of the formation of the new County Department of Agriculture. Voters approved a Maui County Charter amendment in November 2020 for establishment of the department, which will officially launch in July 2022.
