The Holiday Lane Closure Restriction runs from Monday, Dec. 18, through Tuesday, Jan. 2. Only closures with demonstrated need (e.g., necessary for safety or to avoid lengthy construction delays) have been approved and are on this list. There will be no lane closures on Monday, Dec. 25 in observance of Christmas Day.

The Maui Veterans Highway was reopened around 2:40 p.m., according to a spokesperson with the Maui Police Department. The brush fire was reportedly contained around 3:36 p.m. The Maui Fire Department will release specifics following their response.

The state Department of Transportation will be conducting road work this week that will result in lane closures at various locations. Lane closure schedules may change at any time without further notice.  All projects are weather permitting. 

Waiehu Beach Road is now open in both directions. The road was closed earlier due to an accident involving a vehicle and a moped.

A single vehicle accident has resulted in the closure of Akahele Street at Honoapiʻilani Highway; and Honoapiʻilani Highway at Lower Honoapiʻilani Highway.

As of 5:55 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 5, Piʻiholo Road is now open. A portion of road was closed for nearly two hours due to a downed tree and power lines reported earlier in the afternoon.

South Kīhei Road is open. The road was closed for more than an hour while crews responded to a downed utility pole.

A 30-year-old man suffered burns to his leg during a brush fire in Kula, fire officials said.  The man was transported by Medics to the Maui Memorial Medical Center for treatment.

(7:32 a.m., Sept. 19, 2023) North Kīhei Road had reopened in both directions.

Motorists are advised of a motor vehicle accident on Baldwin Ave. at Makawao Ave. Maui police issued a road closure notice at 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2023. Motorists from Haʻikū, heading towards Makawao town are being redirected down Keʻe Road.

Maui police say that in the wake of the wildfire disaster in Lahaina, the department “has been working tirelessly to coordinate a thorough and respectful body recovery operation within the affected area.”

Update: 6:24 a.m., Aug. 11, 2023. Honoapiʻilani Highway is closed to traffic going north into Lahaina. Honoapiʻilani Highway is closed to traffic going north into Lahaina, Only traffic evacuating Lahaina is allowed. Kahekili Hwy is open to residents of Kahakuloa with ID and for people evacuating Lahaina.

Many residents and visitors spent hours and even overnight in their cars waiting for Honoapi’ilani Highway to reopen for non-emergency responders.

Update: 5:33 p.m., Aug. 9, 2023. Honoapiʻilani Highway is open for South Bound Traffic ONLY exiting Lahaina. Honoapiʻilani Highways is open from Kāʻanapali Parkway, up Keawe and onto the Lahaina bypass exiting Lahaina.

Update: A head-on crash early Wednesday morning claimed the life of three people. Maui police have since identified all individuals involved. Police say speed is believed to be a factor in the fiery crash.

Update: 10:18 a.m., Aug. 2, 2023. Makawao Ave. is now open in both directions. It was completely closed on Tuesday afternoon due to a motor vehicle accident between Apana Road and Laie Drive.

The County of Maui’s roadway along rural Alelele Point in East Maui was reopened Tuesday, after the completion of infrastructure reinstallation that followed emergency slope scaling and rock debris removal.

The Maui Department of Water Supply reports that Luakini Street between Dickenson Street and Lahainaluna Road in Lahaina is closed until 12:30 p.m. today. The closure went into effect at 7:30 a.m. Local traffic and emergency vehicles will be permitted while work to repair a service line is conducted.

A 1 acre brush fire in the Kailua area of East Maui is now 100% under control following overnight firefighting efforts and an extended road closure. The fire is currently contained, with personnel remaining on scene to complete mop up.
