First launched in summer 2023 at UH Maui College, the Hoapili Teacher Pathways program has successfully transitioned more than 60 students into teacher licensure and education fields, proving the critical need for a flexible, community-focused approach to teacher education.

In response to the cesspool crisis, Hawaiʻi Community College and the University of Hawaiʻi Maui College launched a new certificate program that trains students to work alongside contractors and engineers assisting with cesspool conversions and installing more sustainable systems.

The University of Hawaiʻi Maui College, in collaboration with Hawaiian Electric, is bringing back the popular Maui Power Pathways Training Program, a free, 10‑week workforce training opportunity designed to prepare local residents for potential careers with the island’s electric utility. This year, the program will be offered on both Maui and Molokaʻi, expanding access to hands‑on energy sector training.

In response to the devastating 2023 wildfires, Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos have donated $1.5 million to support Lahainaluna High School students, along with an additional $2 million to fund research aimed at mitigating future wildfire risk through vegetation management. The gift builds on an earlier generous donation from the Bezos Earth Fund to the East Maui Watershed Partnership.

UH Maui College will host its annual “Holiday Bash & Electric Light Parade” on Thursday, Dec. 11 from 4:30 to 8 p.m. on the Kahului campus Great Lawn and the Pā‘ina Building dining area. The event is open to the public and admission is free.
