Health Dept. warns of frozen fruit products due to potential hepatitis A contamination

The Hawaiʻi State Department of Health Food and Drug Branch is warning residents of a voluntary recall by Willamette Valley Fruit Co. of the following Great Value frozen fruit products sold at Walmart, because of the potential presence of hepatitis A.

Maui Council committee to discuss general excise tax surcharge Tuesday

Chair Yuki Lei K. Sugimura said the committee may consider whether to recommend passage of Bill 49 (2023), which would add a 0.5% surcharge on the 4% state general excise tax to fund housing infrastructure. The committee will also discuss revising the bill to, among other things, clarify allowable uses for the revenue.

Habitat for Humanity Maui celebrates 25 years

May unemployment on Maui drops to 2.5%

On Maui, the Island and county rates dropped to 2.5% in May, compared to 2.8% in April. The outer islands of Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi also saw lowered rates of 4.2% and 1.5% respectively. Molokaʻi continues to have the state’s highest unemployment, while Lānaʻi has the lowest rate.
