Maui United Way wins $5,000 grant for local food research
Maui United Way has been awarded a $5,000 grant through the United to Feed Innovation Challenge that it will use to continue the development of a layered mapping technology tool. The tool identifies gaps in the local food system to assess community needs, costs, and what kind of food is being grown within the county to help address food security gaps.

Maui’s Common Ground Collective receives $437,668 federal award to strengthen local food system
On Maui, Common Ground Collective utilizes field work and research to create food security and economic opportunity for Maui communities. With this award, CGC will work to decrease Maui’s reliance on imported goods by enhancing the local food system, support local agricultural producers by providing distribution assistance to new local growers, and expand the capacity of local food businesses to contribute to the island’s regional food system and those in need.

53 tons of marine debris removed from Papahānaumokuākea
A team from the Papahānaumokuākea Marine Debris Project, a Hawaiʻi-based nonprofit organization, returned to Honolulu recently aboard the 185-ft ship M/V Imua with another 53 tons (105,655 pounds) of marine debris removed from reefs and beaches of the islands and atolls within the Papahānaumokuākea Marine National Monument in the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands.
