Queen Kaʻahumanu Center is excited to welcome Alexander Academy of Performing Arts, which recently relocated from Hāliʻimaile this past September. To celebrate their new space and offer opportunities for student enrollment, the Maui community is invited to a Grand Re-Opening event on Saturday, Feb. 1, 2025, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Center Court.

Maui artist Challys Pascual has won the Jurors’ Choice Award for the Schaefer Portrait Challenge 2025 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center.

Two project films featuring the latest public artworks in Lahaina are being release. The films were created through the collaborative Hui Mo‘olelo: Lahaina program of Maui Public Art Corps, the County of Maui, Hale Hōʻikeʻike at the Bailey House/ Maui Historical Society and the Lahaina Restoration Foundation. 

The series kicks off Feb. 28 with Jerry Santos and featuring Anthony Pfluke, continuing on March 27 with Keola Beamer with Moanalani Beamer and featuring Nick La‘a, and on April 26 the series includes Brother Noland and featuring Ninamarie Bell.

Tickets are now on sale for Clayton Stephenson’s Maui debut concert at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, where the 2022 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition finalist will perform on Friday, Feb. 28, at the MACC’s Castle Theater.

Grammy nominee and multi Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award winner Kumu Hula Kamaka Kukona will celebrate the release of his highly anticipated senior musical project, “KAHENEWAI’OLU,” with a special performance at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Castle Theater on Saturday, Feb. 1, at 7 p.m.

“Lahaina Ondo EP” honoring the Lahaina community has been released on CD and digitally. The title track, “Lahaina Ondo,” is a new bon dance song that honors the Lahaina community by recalling fond summertime memories of everyday life in Lahaina.

The Hawaiian Music Series presents January’s performance by talented duo Wilson Kanakaʻole and Jarret Roback. This free concert will take place on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025 – one week earlier than usual – from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on the picturesque Ocean Lawn at the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa in Kāʻanapali.

The Seabury Hall student group Art with Heart presents its annual collective of Seabury student art and performances entitled “The Family You Choose” on Saturday, Feb. 1 at the school’s ʻAʻaliʻikūhonua Creative Arts Center. The fine art gallery opens at 6 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m. 

The West Maui Recreational Committee with Mana Mentors and Kahakukahi Foundation host the inaugural Recreation Expo for West Maui youth, Jan, 18, 2025, at 2 p.m. at DT Fleming Beach. The community event is focused on bringing youth activities—from sports to music—to keiki.

Akakū Maui Community Media kicks off its 2025 monthly Akakū Upstairs salon series on Thursday Jan. 16, 2025, with a screening of the award winning feature film, “My Partner.” There will be a followup discussion with Maui writer Lance D. Collins and Kānaka Maoli Director Keli’i Grace. 

The MACC presents the award-winning musicians of the Aoi Trio making their Maui debut in Castle Theater on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m. Concert tickets go on sale online only at MauiArts.org on Tuesday, Jan. 14.

The Seabury Hall Performing Arts Department presents Disney’s Newsies Jr. — a musical packed with energy, heart, and an inspiring story of standing up for what’s right.

The Hui No‘eau Visual Arts Center’s annual juried exhibition will be on display Jan. 17 through Feb. 21, 2025, with an opening reception to be held on Friday, Jan. 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. A walk through with juror Abigail Romanchak will be held Friday, Jan. 17 from 4 to 5 p.m.

Last year, Kīhei resident James Nevius—a musician, composer and playwright—released an album blending classical and ambient music called “On the Nile: A Musical Landscape in 18 Parts.” Next week, on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, “On the Nile” comes to life as a dance and theater performance at ProArts Playhouse in Kīhei.
