Maui Public Art Corps on Tuesday unveiled 17 murals that connect King Kamehameha III Elementary School students to Lahaina’s rich history and culture. The murals were created by artists and students at the school’s temporary campus.

A signature of Maui Arts and Cultural Center, the Schaefer Portrait Challenge, has been held as a triennial since 2003. This year’s challenge will mark the eighth iteration of this statewide juried exhibition, which presents the unique diversity of the people of the Hawaiian Islands through explorations in portraiture.

The Royal Lahaina Resort & Bungalows in September celebrated its reopening with the launch of its new oceanfront restaurant and bar, Lahaina Noon, and poolside bar, Pineapple Moon. And last month, the resort blessed its brand-new entertainment venue, The Branches.

The Meet the Artist series returns today from 4 to 8 p.m. at The Sandbar in the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa. The event was created in the wake of the devastating wildfire that tragically impacted Lahaina.

The Maui Arts & Cultural Center presents Hunter Hayes in a solo acoustic concert at the MACC, the Maui debut for the singer/songwriter and a multi-platinum and Grammy nominated artist. Tickets go on sale online only at MauiArts.org at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18 and to the general public Friday, Dec. 20.

Queen Kaʻahumanu Center invites the community to Countdown to Christmas with events, giveaways, and shopping opportunities running Dec. 18-24. 

The Westin Maui Resort & Spa, Kāʻanapali kicked off the holiday season with its Spirit of the Season event last week with festive entertainment, delicious treats, and a tropical winter wonderland ambiance.

All are invited to kick off the holiday season at Duke’s Beach House Maui with a concert featuring GRAMMY-nominated, 21-time Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award winner Henry Kapono and two artists from Henry Kapono Foundation’s On The Rise Program, Arlie-Avery Asiu and Nāmakaokalani Pauole. The live music event paired with dining, cocktails and views of Kāʻanapali’s North Beach, is set for Friday, Dec. 20, from 1 to 5 p.m.

The nonprofit Maui Arts League, best known for hosting Maui Plein Air Painting Invitationals, an annual 7-day community art event held in Lahaina before the COVID-19 pandemic, has announced new leadership to continue driving forward its visual fine arts mission.

Maui Mall Village is celebrating the holiday season with a series of festive events and activities designed to spread joy and support the local community. One of the most significant efforts this year is the Season of Giving: A Holiday Food Drive, in partnership with the Maui Food Bank.

Lahaina Cannery invites the public to celebrate the magic of the season with a free concert by the popular island band High Watah on Dec. 21, 2024. This festive performance marks the grand finale of Lahaina Cannery’s annual Holiday Cheer events.

Hawai‘i REALTORS has announced its 2024 Fair Housing Keiki Art Contest winners. The annual contest is designed to help children learn about fair housing. Students from Kīhei Elementary and ʻĪao Intermediate were among the winners.

Samoan-American comedian, actor, writer, and producer Anette Arinix Aga has won the ‘OHINA Greenlight Award for her script of “Kamaʻāina Not Kanaka,” granting her $20,000-worth of production support toward her script becoming a completed short film.

Momentum Dance Maui and Maui OnStage open the festive and family-friendly holiday favorite “Nutcracker Sweets” on Saturday, Dec. 14 for six performances only. 

An oshogatsu mochi pounding event is set for 4 p.m. Dec. 28 at the Wailuku Hongwanji Mission in Wailuku.
