The National Endowment for the Arts has announced that Maui County has been approved for a $30,000 Grants for Arts Projects award to support its SMALL TOWN * BIG ART creative placemaking program in Wailuku Town and to make plans for countywide expansion.

The Maui Arts & Cultural Center has announced a lineup change for the previously announced  Allman Betts Band concert on April 2 which will now be the Maui debut of the Devon Allman Project in Castle Theater Saturday, April 2 at 7:30 p.m.

Maui’s 20th annual “Art of Aloha” takes place at Lahaina Galleries in The Shops at Wailea on Sunday, Jan. 30, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.   

Due to a death in the family of one of the band members, the Steel Pulse concert at the Maui Arts & Cultural Centerʻs A&B Amphitheater and Yokouchi Pavilion scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 29 has been rescheduled for Friday, April 1, 2022.

In honor of the traditional Chinese New Year, Maui Mall Village will host a Year of the Tiger Celebration on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2022.

Hui No‘eau Visual Arts Center presents the 2022 Annual Juried Exhibition, on display through Feb. 18, 2022, the exhibition features works by 50 artists from Maui and across the state.

Experienced artists Cynthia Monteleone of Nāpili and Zoe Leroy of Kahana are donating time and material to create public murals on walls outside homes off Lahainaluna Road. “The joy is spreading contagiously to others,” Monteleone said. “That’s why I’m doing this. It’s not for me and it’s definite not for the money — it’s for the community.”

SMALL TOWN * BIG ART is conducting a survey to identify Maui County neighborhoods that would be a good match for the art project that if funded with a National Endowment of the Arts grant.

This self-portrait, which she entitled The Gilded Fly, addresses the challenges presented to her in 2021, beginning with a world pandemic and continuing most recently with breast cancer diagnosis, chemotherapy and a double mastectomy.

Local children’s entertainment group, The Peek-a-Bows, announced the release their third episode entitled “Lōkahi” on New Year’s Eve. This is the last episode of their 3-part mini-series created for young children ages 2-6.

One of Hawaiʻi’s top emerging comedians, Tumua, will make his Maui debut with a show titled “Bringing Back Local Comedy” at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 26 at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center in Kahului.

Featuring artists whose work best capture Hawai‘i’s portraits, the statewide juried exhibition Schaefer Portrait Challenge kicks off Jan. 11 through March 19, 2022, at Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Schaefer International Gallery in Kahului. 

Comedian Bill Maher will ring in the New Year in Hawai‘i for the 10th time at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center, with a show that includes Nikki Glaser and Christopher “Kid” Reid on Dec. 30.

There are two public aerial fireworks displays planned in Maui County to ring in the New Year–in South Maui from a barge offshore of the Grand Wailea Resort, and at the Four Seasons Resort Lānaʻi from the laydown area at 1 Mānele Bay Road.

At the Sentry Tournament of Champions that runs Jan. 5-9, a new fan feature, the Art Walk presented by Maui Jim, will have original artwork for viewing and online auction between hole Nos. 3 and 9 at The Planation Course at Kapalua.

The MACC is hosting Portland-based John Craigie, an Americana singer-songwriter, next month at the McCoy Studio Theater.
