Written primarily in English, Revilla’s 141-page poetry collection also features ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian language), which at times, better expresses some of her deepest thoughts and feelings.

The 2022 Emma Farden Sharpe Hula Festival returns to an “in person” event under the shade of the Lahaina Banyan Tree on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2022 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Hawaiian singer-songwriter Paula Fuga said she’s always been drawn to “Queen of Soul” Aretha Franklin’s personality and music and looks forward to her “Tribute to Aretha Franklin” concert at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center Aug. 13.

The mural will serve as the temporary construction wall surrounding the future site of The Parlay, a new retro-style tavern at the northeast corner of Main Street and North Church Street in Wailuku.

The story of Hawaiian activist George Helm unfolds in a screening of the film “Hawaiian Soul” at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center on Aug. 18, along with music from his niece and multiple Nā Hōkū Hanohano winner Raiatea Helm.

Nā Mamo O Mū‘olea announced the post-pandemic reemergence of the annual Hāna Limu Festival, at a new location this year. The 2022 Limu Festival – Hanana No Nā Limu – takes place on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Coconut Cove, 20 Uwala Drive in Hāna, Maui. 

“We have parks for baseball, pickleball, tennis, and schools, but we’ve never had something for our hālau, yet hula is what we share with the world,” said Mayor Michael Victorino.

After a two-year hiatus, The Shops at Wailea on Friday relaunched its complimentary concert series with three-time Grammy Award winner Kalani Pe’a.

The award-winning documentary is being shown in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Title IX, and to honor its namesake–Maui’s own Patsy Takemoto Mink.

Dedicated to the study, practice, celebration of hula and various ‘ōiwi arts, the center will be the first of its kind and the largest investment by a county or the state to establish a permanent place for hula and its associated arts.
