The West Maui Recreational Committee hosts 2nd Recreation Expo for West Maui youth
The West Maui Recreational Committee with Mana Mentors, Kahakukahi Foundation, West Maui Sports & Fishing and Maui Pono Foundation announced the 2nd Recreation Expo, a community event focused on bringing activities to youth. The event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2025, from 3 to 6 p.m. at 1000 Kapalua Drive (Kapalua Cart Barn).

Episode 33 of the ongoing Halemaʻumaʻu eruption began at 3:11 a.m. HST on Friday, Sept. 19 and is currently fountaining within the summit caldera. Current fountain height is greater than 500 feet and the convective plume is about 10,000 feet AGL, according to the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.

Illegal dumping continues to threaten Maui’s land and waters, but Mālama Maui Nui is stepping up efforts to protect the environment. Between April and June 2025, the nonprofit recovered 104 tons of waste from Maui alone through cleanups and community hotspotting initiatives.

There is a water service outage due to mainline break in Hāna, on Hāna Hwy, from Koali Bridge to St. Peters Church, affecting 60 homes and 10 standpipes. The Department of Water Supply reports the outage is from in effect from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2025.
