Trace levels of contaminant detected in Haleakalā National Park water system
Low levels of 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic acid was recently detected for the first time during routine sampling collected at the Haleakalā National Park drinking water system. The small community system serves approximately 1,200 individuals in Kula, Maui.

The Honoapiʻilani Highway is now OPEN at Plantation Club Drive in Kapalua. It was closed earlier today as crews battled a brush fire in the area.
Monique Ibarra resigns as director of Ka Hale A Ke Ola Homeless Resource Centers on Maui
Ka Hale A Ke Ola Homeless Resource Centers announced today that Executive Director Monique R. Ibarra has resigned to assume the position of chief executive officer of the Domestic Violence Action Center on Oahu. Ibarra will succeed Nanci Kreidman, DVAC CEO and co-founder, who announced her retirement, effective June 30.
History Theatre returns to Waiola Church, July 6-7
Lahaina Restoration Foundation in collaboration with Hawaiian Mission Houses Historic Site and Archives will debut a new production of History Theatre on July 6 and 7, 2023 at 6 p.m. The performances will be held at Waiola Church, 535 Waineʻe Street, Lahaina, HI 96761.
UH Maui College students launch scientific payload on a rocket
Five University of Hawaiʻi Maui College students built a simulated satellite the size of a soda can for an international competition and rocket launch, UH reports. The payload system design team was called UHMCanSat and placed 27th out of hundreds of competing universities in the American Astronautical Society 2023 CanSat Competition in Blacksburg, Virginia in June.
Hana Lima Career Exploration Summer Program at UH Maui College
The program is designed for students to spend two weeks gaining knowledge about a specific chosen career field. It is open to all 2023 high school graduates and high school students who will graduate in 2024 and 2025.

Flight cancelations caused by delays from Olowalu fire impact 800 travelers at Kahului Airport
Maui District Airports Manager Marvin Moniz said there were several flight cancellations due to the brush fire, resulting in disruptions for approximately 800 passengers.
Olowalu fire burns 120 acres, now 90% contained, all roads are OPEN
Update: 3:33 p.m., June 28, 2023. The brush fire in Olowalu is now 90% contained, according to Maui Fire Services Chief Rylan Yatsushiro. Fire crews worked throughout the day to further secure the perimeter of the fire and address hot spots. Personnel will continue operations and closely monitor conditions throughout the afternoon and evening.

A federal grant of $25,000,000 has been secured for the Līloa Drive extension in Kīhei on Maui as part of Biden-Harris Administration’s Investing in America Agenda. The project will extend Līloa Drive by 2,900 lineal feet and notes the addition of two more roundabouts to the South Maui community.

Permanent speed limit reduction announced for part of Haleakalā Highway
The state Department of Transportation has announced a speed limit reduction for part of the Haleakalā Highway. Speed is being reduced from 55 mph to 45 mph in the northbound direction in the vicinity of the North Firebreak Road Intersection near the Hāna Highway, between mile 0.20 and 0.70.

Mokulele Airlines to suspend Hilo to Kahului daily service; adding Maui to Kona flight

Olowalu fire updates: More than 100 acres burned, 50% contained, Honoapiʻilani OPEN
Maui fire crews worked overnight to battle a stubborn fire in Olowalu where 100 acres had burned by nightfall on Tuesday. The fire was 50% contained at last report.
