Eighteen of approximately 70 coconut trees at Baldwin Beach Park in Pāʻia were removed this past week after coastal erosion and saltwater intrusion caused the gradual decline and death of the trees closest to the shoreline, according to the County of Maui arborist and the Department of Parks and Recreation.

The University of Hawaiʻi Sea Grant College Program and partners invite the community to a Talk Story event at Kapukaulua (Baldwin Beach) on Jan. 26, 2026, in celebration of World Environmental Education Day.

The Maui County Department of Parks and Recreation, in partnership with the University of Hawaiʻi Sea Grant Program, is inviting the community to help plant native coastal species at Baldwin Beach from 8 to 10 a.m. Oct. 20.

Crews removed three large tree stumps and three large concrete pieces, along with other debris, from the eastern section of Baldwin Beach on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025, according to the County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation.

A section of Baldwin Beach, also known as Kapuka‘ulua, will be temporarily closed for tree stump removal on Thursday, Aug. 21, and Friday, Aug. 22, 2025, according to the County of Maui Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR).

What is being done to address the growing presence of homeless people at Baldwin Beach Park?

A Brown Water Advisory is being issued for Hanakaʻōʻō Beach, Honokahua Bay, Honolua Bay, and Baldwin Beach Park on Maui, due to heavy rains.

Baldwin Beach Park will reopen on Saturday morning, Oct. 31, 2015, following high surf conditions that flooded the park on Wednesday. The extensive cleanup will conclude this afternoon.
