The Summit District of Haleakalā National Park remains closed following recent storms and the ongoing closure of Crater Road (Route 378). Recovery efforts, including hazard tree removal, continue along the roadway.

The Summit District of Haleakalā National Park remains closed through the weekend for storm recovery, including road clearing and facility restoration. Meanwhile, the Kīpahulu District is open to the public. Kīpahulu Campground reopens today, Friday, Aug. 21.

Due to road repairs following the weekend kona storm, both districts of Haleakalā National Park will remain closed until further notice. For updates on park conditions visit www.nps.gov/hale

Beginning after sunset Thursday, March 12, 2026, Haleakalā National Park will be closed due to dangerous weather conditions. The closure will go into effect for both the Summit District and Kīpahulu District.

The Friends of Haleakalā National Park are seeking volunteers to assist with resource protection efforts in the Kīpahulu District from Friday to Sunday, Aug. 8 to 10.

Haleakalā National Park’s Summit and Kīpahulu Districts remain closed to the public through at least the evening of Monday, Aug. 21, 2023. Visitors should not plan to drive to or visit the park until it has been officially reopened.

Haleakalā National Park’s Summit and Kīpahulu Districts remain closed to the public through the evening of Friday, Aug. 18, 2023.  The National Park Service advises the public: “Please do not attempt to visit the park during the closure as both districts are closed to entry.”

Applications are being accepted for the park’s Youth Conservation Corps summer employment program until May 15, 2023. The summer jobs are available in the Kīpahulu District of Haleakalā National Park for youth between the ages of 15 and 18 years old.

The Summit District of Haleakalā National Park and the Pīpīwai Trail in the Kīpahulu District are closed due to severe weather effective Dec. 18, 2022 at 4 p.m. All sunrise reservations on Monday, Dec. 19, 2022, have been canceled. 

The National Park Service is requesting assistance in identifying anyone responsible for poaching trees at Lelekea Beach in the Kīpahulu District of Haleakalā National Park.

The Kīpahulu District of Haleakalā National Park will remain open this weekend from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Maui Department of Public Works road closure along Hāna Highway has been postponed.

Haleakalā National Park’s stream monitoring system in Kīpahulu has been repaired and the area known as the Pools of ‘Ohe‘o is now open.

A one-mile section of the Pīpīwai Trail located in the Kīpahulu District of Haleakalā National Park in East Maui will close for helicopter operations.

A one-mile portion of the Pīpīwai Trail in east Maui will close for helicopter operations on May 2, 2018, in support of a trail boardwalk replacement project.

The ʻOheʻo Pools will remain closed until risk assessment and mitigation to prevent further rockslides is complete. The area has been closed since Jan 3, 2017.

The Kīpahulu Visitor Center will close for four weeks of renovations beginning today, Monday, March 20, 2017.

Hāna High School’s 10th grade Biology class planted 100 Hala, Milo, and Kamani on the Kuloa Point Trail in the Kīpahulu District of Haleakalā National Park.

In the next few months, the leak will be identified and repaired. Long-term, the park has plans to replace the water system in the next two years.
