Restrictions lifted South Maui; repairs continue following 202,000 gallon wastewater overflow
Properties connected to the County’s wastewater (sewer) system in South Maui (Sugar Beach, Kīhei, Wailea/Makena) no longer need to restrict usage due to repairs to Kīhei Wastewater Pump Station No. 6, according to an update issued by the Maui Department of Environmental Management on Friday afternoon.
Update: Wastewater overflow in Kīhei did not enter ocean; repair work continues
A wastewater overflow this morning at Kalama Park in Kīhei did not enter storm drains or the ocean, and has been cleaned up, with the area sanitized and cordoned off, according to the County of Maui Department of Environmental Management.

The County of Maui, Department of Environmental Management, Wastewater Reclamation Division proposes to construct two new 8-inch sewerlines along Kaiola Place and Ohukai Road and install 10 6-inch service laterals and eight sewer manholes to connect 10 properties to the County wastewater system in Kīhei.
County announces amended sewer service status for 28 West Maui lots
The County of Maui Department of Environmental Management’s Wastewater Reclamation Division announced that it has amended the Sewer Service Status from “red,” which indicates a property does not currently have active sewer service, to “green,” meaning the sewer service is active, for 28 properties in Lahaina including: 25 lots in Kuhua Camp area; and three lots on Lahainaluna Road.
Maui Council adopts resolution on recycled water in effort to preserve potable water for affordable housing
Citing several supportive General Plan policies, the resolution requests the mayor and Department of Environmental Management to increase the “production and expansion of recycled R-1 water to preserve potable water for the construction of affordable housing and to support fire protection, greenbelts, agriculture and cultural uses.”
