The Maui Job Corps Center is officially open, fully operating, and currently looking to enroll 98 new students ages 16 to 24.

After nearly three decades of helping Maui’s youth chart a better future, Dr. David Wittenberg walked off the Maui Job Corps campus for what might have been the last time.

In her role, she will help connect young people with academic and vocational training opportunities offered through the Maui Job Corps Center.

At the Maui Job Corps Center, they have the capacity to serve 128 students between the ages of 16-24 in areas such as Hotel & Lodging, Culinary Arts, Building Construction Technology, and Administration.

The Maui Job Corps Center collected 100 books for Pāʻia Elementary School during a recent book drive event. The books were donated by staff and community members and purchased off the Amazon book wish list.

Maui Job Corps Center will host a graduation ceremony and recognition event for 66 individuals who completed the program.  The graduation will take place this Thursday, Aug. 8, at 12:30 p.m.

The student speaker for graduation is Vanessa Dan who completed her offsite work based learning internship as an office assistant Harbor Lights Condominiums.

Maui Job Corps Center will join 126 Job Corps centers across the country to celebrate the “National Job Corps Commencement Day” ceremony on Thursday, Aug. 24.

Over the last ten years Maui Job Corps has volunteered and donated time to build roadways, plant indigenous and native plants, and install a working water catchment and irrigation system in the remote region. Job Corps representatives say much of the work done has now been destroyed by the fire.

Maui Fire Services Chief Lee Mainaga said when units arrived, occupants of the building had already doused the small fire with fire extinguishers.
