Eastbound and westbound lanes of Kaʻahumanu Ave. (Route 32) between Kāne St. and Lono Ave. will be impacted by water line work for the Maui Palms Hampton Inn project from Monday, Sept. 30 to Friday, Oct. 4. The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation advises motorists of the ongoing work and asks people to drive with caution in the area.

Kauanoe Batangan has been appointed executive director of the Maui Metropolitan Planning Organization (Maui MPO), the agency responsible for coordinating federal highway and transit investments on the island of Maui. He started in the job Sept. 3.

Diane Yogi, who has worked for the County of Maui Department of Transportation since its creation in 2003, has been appointed the departmentʻs deputy director. Her start date was Sept. 3.

The Central Maui Transit Hub is expected to open this month, according to Department of Transportation Director Marc Takamori. The opening will end Maui Bus traffic within the Queen Kaʻahumanu Center.

Vision Zero Maui, an initiative created to educate the Maui community on safe transportation behaviors, is hosting a series of free, educational events in South Kihei open to the public from Feb. 12 through Feb. 14.

The Hawaiʻi State Climate Commission has released three new reports emphasizing clean transportation investments to address climate change.

The state Department of Transportation is installing nearly 30,000 linear feet of dust screen for the protection of highway users on Honoapiʻilani Highway (Route 30) and the Lahaina Bypass (Route 3000).

Maui Economic Opportunity Human Services and Maui Bus ADA Paratransit buses will resume trips to, from and within West Maui beginning Tuesday, Aug. 22.

A community open house will be held Tuesday, June 20, on the draft plan for the County of Maui’s I Mua Central Maui transportation study, a 20-year plan that will identify transportation projects and programs in Central Maui.

The community is requested to provide comments on an updated draft of Maui Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Public Participation Plan and is invited to a virtual presentation and public meeting via Zoom. Two meetings will be available: Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at 6 p.m.; and Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at 12 p.m.

The West Maui Greenway is a proposed 25-mile multi-use trail that will one day connect Ukumehame and Līpoa Point, passing through multiple community destinations and downtown Lahaina along the way.

Roberts Hawaiʻi co-founder, Robert Iwamoto Jr. announced his retirement from the company as CEO & chairman of the board, effective Dec. 31, 2020. Iwamoto has served as the transportation company’s CEO & chairman of the board since 1983.
