The Maui Hotel & Lodging Association announced their 2024-2025 Board of Directors at their annual meeting held on Sept. 12 at the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa. Board members were elected from a list of candidates nominated by MHLA property and allied members earlier this year.

Along with celebrating the appointed, MHLA also recognized the wildfire relief efforts of its members during the Annual Meeting. Maui’s visitor industry is experiencing a daily economic loss of nearly $13 million a day since the August wildfires.

A complaint was filed with the Maui County Board of Ethics on Tuesday about Maui County Council Chair Mike White’s declaration that he will continue to serve as council chair for the 2017-2019 Council term.

Mike White will continue to serve as chair of the Maui County Council and Robert Carroll will serve as vice-chair during the 2017-2019 Council term beginning on Jan. 2.

Maui County Council Chair Mike White officially filed nomination papers for reelection to the Council’s Makawao, Ha‘ikū and Pā‘ia residency seat.

Instead of going with one or the other, the current proposal seeks a structure that would include both a county manager and an elected mayor.

The Special Committee, composed of community volunteers appointed by the council, will meet on Thursday, Jan. 28 at 1 p.m. in the Council Chamber in Wailuku.

The committee is tasked with providing the council with a written recommendation on whether establishing a county manager form of government would improve management and operation of the county. Their deadline to do so is by June 1, 2016.

The County Committee on Public and Intergovernmental Affairs will reconvene on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 1:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber to further discuss a county manager form of government instead of one run by a mayor.
