An elderly driver crashed a van into the Panda Express restaurant Tuesday in Kahului, but no one was injured, according to the Maui Police Department.

Update: (2:14 p.m., Jan. 12, 2026). The Kahekili Highway is now open in both directions.

An 84-year-old Kula woman was transported to the hospital in critical condition with life-threatening injuries following a single-vehicle collision on Thompson Road in Kula on Friday afternoon. 

(Update: 12:25 p.m., Jan. 16, 2025) The traffic signal at the intersection of Hāna Highway and Haleakalā Highway has been repaired.

A 44-year-old Kahului woman succumbed to injuries sustained in a single vehicle crash reported on Oct. 31 on West Kuiaha Road in Haʻikū, police said. Police have since identified the woman.

Update: A pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle in Kahului on Friday, has since succumbed to his injuries and died while at the Maui Memorial Medical Center early Saturday morning. Police have identified the pedestrian as Randal Takatani, 65, of Kahului.

A 28-year-old Kula man suffered critical life-threatening injuries in a motorcycle crash on Makawao Avenue Sunday night.

(Update: 11 a.m., April 25, 2024) The Maui Veterans Highway is now OPEN in the area of the Central Maui Baseyard. It was closed for three hours while police conducted an investigation following a motor vehicle accident.

Waiehu Beach Road is now open in both directions. The road was closed earlier due to an accident involving a vehicle and a moped.

(7:32 a.m., Sept. 19, 2023) North Kīhei Road had reopened in both directions.

Update: 3:14 p.m., July 13, 2023 The Hāna Highway is now OPEN in both directions. It was closed earlier this afternoon due to a motor vehicle accident involving multiple vehicles.

Pūlehu Road is now open. It was closed overnight and into Tuesday following a motor vehicle accident that knocked down a utility pole and lines across the roadway.

Update: 12:23 a.m., April 4, 2023: The Honoapiʻilani Highway is now open in both directions following a traffic fatality involving a motor vehicle accident with a pedestrian. The incident was reported at around 8 p.m. on the highway in the area of Mile 13 in Olowalu. The highway was closed for more than four hours while police conducted a traffic fatality investigation.

A motor vehicle accident involving a flipped truck snarled traffic for hours along the “Pali” section of the Honoapiʻilani Highway on Saturday morning.

Update: Nov. 26, 2022, 5:20 a.m.: Hansen Road remains closed. Hawaiian Electric Company reports that weather has caused further issues. Work is estimated to take another 3-4 hours.

Speed is suspected as a factor in a single-vehicle crash on Waikō Road that claimed the life of a 33-year-old Waiehu man on Maui Friday.

Kula Highway is now open. All lanes are open as of 8:33 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 24, in both the mauka and makai directions.

Kaupakalua Road is closed between East Kuiaha and Awalau Road due to a motor vehicle accident involving a telephone pole.  Maui police say the road will remain closed until approximately 10 a.m. while Hawaiian Tel personnel conduct repairs on scene.

Maui police are responding to a motor vehicle accident along the Honoapiʻilani Highway near Papalaua (between Mile 11-12). The pickup truck reportedly hit a tree and flipped over. The vehicle was off to the side of the road. The incident was reported at around 6:09 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2020.

A 37-year-old Kahului man suffered life-threatening injuries when he collided into a wild pig in the roadway and was ejected while operating a motor scooter on the Maui Veterans “Mokulele” Highway (311) on Saturday night.
