More than 7,000 customers were without power due to an outage impacting customers from Wailuku to Kahakuloa on Monday night. Some areas of Wailuku had power restored by 9 p.m.

On Wednesday night, Hawaiian Electric initiated a PSPS in the south Kohala area of Hawaiʻi Island when wind gusts exceeded 50 mph and humidity levels dropped below 45%. There were no other PSPS-related outages needed.

Hawaiian Electric has re-energized all circuits impacted in the south Kohala area of Hawai‘i Island by the Public Safety Power Shutoff program. At this time, all customers who can have power restored safely should now have electricity.

The company may proactively shut off power in Public Safety Power Shutoff areas on Maui and Hawaiʻi Island as part of its PSPS program, which continues in a watch condition that started on Saturday.

8:30 a.m. Update: Public Safety Power Shutoff restoration completed for 330 Upcountry Maui customers

Hawaiian Electric has restored electricity to all affected customers, about 330 in parts of Upcountry Maui, impacted by its Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) program. Overnight crews and additional personnel who have been working since 6 a.m. completed inspections of the circuits enabling all customers to be restored. If hazardous conditions suddenly return, it may be necessary to shut off the power in identified PSPS areas on Maui and Hawai‘i Island to reduce the risk of a wildfire.

HECO’s Public Safety Power Shutoff is ready if needed as dry summer looms

As first responders, emergency management agencies and landowners prepare for a dry summer, Hawaiian Electric reports it is readying its Public Safety Power Shutoff program to reduce the risk of ignitions from its equipment in dry and windy conditions.

One will be held Saturday, April 26 at the King Kekaulike High School Cafeteria. The other will be held Saturday, May 3, at the Lahaina Intermediate School Cafeteria.
