High Surf Warning for north facing shores of Maui
The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Warning for the north and west facing shores of Niʻihau, Kauaʻi, Oʻahu and Molokaʻi, and the north facing shores of Maui.
Surf of 25-40 feet along north shore, High Surf Warning extended to 6 p.m.
Dangerously large breaking waves of 25 to 40 feet are forecast for the north and west facing shores of Niʻihau, Kauaʻi, Molokaʻi, and Oʻahu, and the north facing shores of Maui.
Warning issued: swell to bring surf of 40-50 feet to north shores
Surf of 40 to 50 feet is forecast along north facing shores as an extra large swell arrives, peaking on Wednesday. The west facing shores will also see warning level surf of 25-35 feet.
Finals Day Called ON at Maui Pro and Billabong Pipe Masters
For the first time in Championship Tour history, women will compete at the world-famous Banzai Pipeline to complete the final rounds of the Maui Pro presented by ROXY. The Maui event was moved to Oʻahu after a fatal shark bite incident at Honolua Bay on Tuesday, Dec. 8 involving a recreational surfer.
Three Secure Quarterfinal Spots in Pipe Masters, Maui Pro Schedule to be Determined
The next call at the Banzai Pipeline will be today, Friday, Dec. 18 at 7 a.m. HST. In addition to continuing the Billabong Pipe Masters presented by Hydro Flask, the call will also determine the schedule for the final day of competition for the Maui Pro presented by ROXY.
Billabong Pipe Masters Called ON, Maui Pro to Will Resume at Banzai Pipeline
The World Surf League is ending the suspension of the Billabong Pipe Masters in Memory of Andy Irons presented by Hydro Flask, the first stop on the 2021 Men’s Championship Tour. In addition, the remaining heats in the Maui Pro presented by ROXY will be hosted at the legendary Banzai Pipeline on Oʻahu’s North Shore within the Pipe waiting period, which continues through Sunday, Dec. 20.
Maui Pro: Remainder of Competition Will Not Take Place at Honolua
The remaining heats for the Maui Pro professional women’s surfing event presented by ROXY will not take place at Honolua Bay on Maui, organizers announced. The competition was suspended on Tuesday following after an apparent shark bite incident in which a recreational surfer was bitten. The victim died on Wednesday evening.
Maui Pro Called Off Today Following Shark Incident at Honolua
Honolua Bay offered up flawless five-to-eight foot (1.8 – 2.4 meter) surf with Hawaiʻi’s Carissa Moore, and Australia’s Tyler Wright and Sally Fitzgibbons advancing to the semifinals.
